As answered earlier in this same thread:

From the Windows Mail main screen:
Click the Tools menu and choose Options...
Click the Spelling tab
From the Language drop-down, select English
Click OK

If this does not work, repeat the above, but first select a language other
than English. Click OK. Then switch back to English.

Thanks, I just tried spell check on my new laptop computer in Windows Mail
and was told I could not. It was already set to English and I followed your
suggestion and selected a language other than English. Clicked OK and then
switched back to English. Your suggestion worked like a charm. many thanks.

You're welcome. Sometimes settings need to be toggled a few
times before they will 'stick'.

Hi Im also new to this Vista. I found that if you go into "Tools" at the
very top tool bar, click on the tab "spelling" and tick the box "always check
the spelling......" this fixes the problem.

Hi Ramesh,
I am new to Vista, am now wondering if I did the wise thing. Any way I tried
to put the language problem right as you said but It still does not see
Eng-US. In actual fact in the Language list Eng - US is not listed at all.
Any thoughts on this problem please.

I don't have a Bug ID for this issue, and also not sure if this was reported earlier.

Can you list the relevant bug ID for this problem? I'm assuming it exists (or
I'm going to go create one). I'd like to track it. It's a very annoying bug
for a clean installation of your newest OS. I wish I'd seen and reported it
during beta.

Are you confusing email, which usually goes to one person, with newsgroups,
which go to an unknown number of people around the world? This is in a
newsgroup.

I tried this but English already was chosen and I am still getting the same
message when I spell check.

You need to click on the Tools menu in the *main* screen of Windows Mail, not in the Compose message window.

I just fixed mine, go to windows mail and in the very top bar it also says
tools ,click on there and go in and find options then spelling and then check
always correct before sending and it will work, for now.

hey everybody, simple fix, follow the stated instructions of:
Start Windows Mail
Click the Tools menu and choose Options...
Click the Spelling tab
From the Language drop-down,
AT THIS POINT , INSTEAD OF JUST SELECTING ENGLISH, SELECT AND APPLY A
DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, AND THEN GO BACK AND:
From the Language drop-down, select English (default choice)
Click OK
THE REASON IS SIMPLE, IF YOU TRY SELECTING THE SAME LANGUAGE, WINMAIL
SEES NO CHANGE, THEREFORE, NO CHANGE IS DONE, AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.IT
IS MYCH LIKE RESETTING A CIRCUIT BREAKER!
