This keeps popping up when I open Windows Mail....

I tried all that. If I uncheck SSL, Google won't load mail at all. At least
if SSL's checked then I only get an irritating popup.

The setting I gave has nothing to do with SSL.
The SSL setting is on a different screen.

This is my error on send/recieve any help?
Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR not supported p33pf7577919elf', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the Gmail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

I recently installed Vista and Windows Mail on a new machine and now every
time I open my email I get an error "The server you are connected to is using
a security certificatethat could not be verified. A certificate chain
processed, but terminated in a root certificate that is not trusted by the
trust provider. Do you want to continue using this server? Yes or No" I click
yes and my mail operates normally. I have accouts set up for gmail, yahoo and
my local provider of which all accounts send and receive mail properly.

I double checked all the advice in this thread and none of the "fixes"
applied to me. Is there a way to shut that warning box off? I use AVG
Antivirus.

TIA
Kim

I don't know, but if you used the normal install of AVG, you may want
to uninstall it and then do a custom install that tells it to leave out the
part that scans email.

In your Mail program go to "tools" then "accounts" and click on "properties"
of the account that is causing this message to appear then open the
"advanced" tab and "uncheck" the "This server requires a secure connection"
(or click on the "use defaults" button) then "apply" then OK. That should fix
it.

The reason some of us post after so long is that not a lot of people will
trust
soloutions that came from last year.

So just to confirm
un-check THIS SERVER REQUIRES A SECURE CONNECTION (SSL)

Uncheck this on the INBOX only not on both in and out as previously advised

regards

Mikey

Why did you reply to a post that is almost 10 months old?

Just curious.
I am getting this message using ATT/Yahoo SSL and on outgoing (SMTP) mail,
incoming (POP3) works fine. My SMTP port is set to "465" as specified by
ATT/Yahoo. Also, they recently informed me that they will soon not support
non-SSL mail services so unchecking this capability is not an option. btw,
when I contacted ATT/Yahoo support, they told me that it's a Microsoft issue.

Any ideas?

You posted the same issue in the thread "Error Message: Security
Certificate Could Not Be Verified."
Please use only one thread per issue, otherwise it dilutes the available
responders' time and effort.

We will need to know the exact name of the SMTP server you are using.

Hi Gary, yes, sorry, both threads seemed related and I wasn't sure which to
us. I've sent my reply to the other thread.

Thanks

I usually just have to cancel it out and hit send/receive again to get my
email. It's just annoying. Anyone ever seen this? Thanks!

What is the exact error message?
Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

The following is the error message

the server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could
not be verfied.
A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which
is not trusted by the trust provider. Do you want to continue using this
server yes no

Go to Tools, Options, Security. Make sure the last two boxes are not
checked. Then click on Digital IDs. There should not be any entries in
that screen.

If no improvement, delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account.

I went to Tools, Options, Security. Make sure the last two boxes are not
checked. they were not checked

Then click on Digital IDs. There should not be any entries in
that screen. there was an entry i removed the entry

If no improvement, delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account.

the first acct i created was (e-mail address removed)
pop.att.yahoo.com
smtp.att.yahoo.com

when i loaded the mail program no error message aqppeared

Then i put in the second acct (e-mail address removed)
mail.5to9.net pop
smtp.att.yahoo.com

now i get the error message, if i delete the acct and just use the1princess
account no error message.

Thanks Carolyn
