BTW I teach in one of those schools that have just started back. I spend
my life helping those that know a lot less than I do (and I hear the same
questions year after year)

Good for you :) That's what teachers do and I always appreciated that.

Sorry, just stopped by this newsgroup and found this interesting subject.

Many people are not born or educated to be a good teacher or instructor
(such as myself :) ), but to the least degree, he/she should understand
that and make a better use of his/her time and talents.

No question is a stupid question. I have learned and shared many and yet
still asking many "stupid" questions just to make sure I really understood
the question.

If I understood correctly, people come here are volunteers for helping
others. If he/she thinks not so willing, why do some gardening works
instead of coming here.

I tried to point out where might be the sources of simple answers and how to
get it "at the end" of help session at the office. Isn't it a better way
for "teaching" people for the immediate needs and for problem solving at the
same time, and see if they can learn - before jumping to the conclusion?

Finally, I really appreciate those who care to spend your time, knowledge,
and skills for pure idiots like myself and others with more advanced skills.
You may wish to know one thing - This is why US-based newsgroups have much
more visitors than any other countries for the same topics established by
MS - if you occasionally visited different country-based newsgroups for
Europe and Asia. In the end, you also helped this country to maintain one
of its core competencies - computer skills.

Anybody can be replaced anywhere at any time and the world will still go on
Realizing that some years ago, I started to take longer vocations as
Europeans do :)

Wow....

Glad I never came across you in my MSBASIC posts on CompuServe....
actually... back then, the "boys" (and girls) would have easily put you in
your place...
yes, "your place".

But those days are gone... so I guess we will have to live with ya... too
bad
for beginners who post to this newsgroup...., and yes, you might as well
include me in that group.

Doug.

When I was a newbie I was told day after day (after a review of my code)
that I was an idiot. Did I take offence? No. The critique came from an
experienced programmer.. someone that would indeed know whether I was an
idiot or not. I learned. And became less idiotic.

I feel sorry for you.

You learned from an "experienced" programmer, not necessary a decent people
and a qualified supervisor or instructor.

You're repeating/revenging your miserable experiences to those
disadvantaged. You think that since you have suffered, others have to
suffered too.

I bet you were less harder than I was as a business majored person who had
joined the tech industry for over two decades.

Idiot is a too nice word for people giving to me at the time. I spent
thousands and thousands of dollars on self-learning, and learned from
generous people of various newsgroups and forums, and eventually I was on
the top management and now started my own business.

You're the type of engineers that I have no hesitation to fire and would
never include into consideration to hire.

It is because we suffered before that we need to help others now.

I'm not opposed to you being a hypocritical asshat, just your ranting
about it in here. I believe the reason someone set these forums up was
for the purpose of COMMUNICATION. It certainly was not for the power
hungry or ignorance to flourish.

Here's a new activity you can not ask questions about: restraint.

I'm seeing a terribly distubing number of questions that have no purpose
in existing. As an example: How do I change the position of a stream?
Hmm.. Could it be some method on the stream itsself? Probably.

My advice, pleading advice, is that you USE YOUR DAMN BRAINS before
spewing your crap on here. Think about what you are doing. If your
question is "How do I do X with class/object Y?" Then why not open up
the Obejct Browser and take a look at the properties and methods of Y.
Also, Google is your very bestest of friends when trying to FIGURE
SOMETHING OUT FOR YOURSELF.

There was a time you were a newbie too ... please don't forget that.

Did it ever came to your mind MOST explanations or documentation that
can be found with Google are in English and MANY not English people
(like me) have problems in understanding what is written.
Just like the world doesn't belong to the U.S.A programming doesn't
belong to English people or to people who are more skilled in
programming than others.
Instead of posting such an offensive message it would be better to
ignore them if they bother you. That's what I do when I read (other)
ng's and find a question way too silly ....

Maybe this is a newsgrooup for pro's, then I will redraw from here and
look somewhere else for answers just because I like to do some
programming for fun. But as far as I know it's not forbidden to ask
questions, how silly they may be or how bad they may reflect the
laziness of the author.

Geezus. You people sicken me with your "we have to be nice to everyone"
attitude. We don't have to be nice. We have the power. We have the
ability to dispense it in any manner we choose. But this group seems to
have a freakin bleeding heart complex. It's disgusting. Go back to your
fuking hippy drum circle.
<snip>
Now, I'll have my say, as you obviously did not "THINK before you post".
You're quite right that "We don't have to be nice." By the same token, we
don't have to be nasty or belittle people. Does it somehow make you feel
superior when you do?
Only the weak and insecure bully and belittle from behind the protection of
an electronic interface.
Oh, and before you try laying any of your "Go back to your (sic)fuking hippy
circle" junk on me, I'm a 24 year military veteran and retired senior
officer (as right wing as they come).

Hi Opa,

Boo can write very pleasant messages too; therefore don't blame him for this
message. It is his opinion and he brings it in the discussion, something I
am used to do too as it bothers me. I (and with a high chance you) are
living in a country that is stated because of this principle more than 400
years ago now, we are free to speech, therefore let him do that as well.

From this thread, I understand that what Boo has written is in not accepted
by the majority of the visitors from this newsgroup.

However, he can always use the not written "student rule" which regulars use
in this newsgroup: We give never too those direct answers, only hints to
find the solution for their problem...

I agree 100% with the "student rule". It can easily be applied without
unnecessary unpleasantness.
