The PCReview 'Show Us Your Desktop Background' Thread

Now forgive me if i'm missing something here, but that looks really basic? I know its Linux, Arch i assume?

But why does it look so '8-bit' !?

Abarbarian you are capable of doing far better than that, I agree with V_R

Well it is Arch, a fresh install done in the last week or so. So I have a deal of tuning to do and I wanted a fast lightweight WM to use whilst I accomplished this.
So I went for the newly resurrected WindowMaker as it was the easiest to configure to a workable standard and th easiest to tart up a bit.
I have spent a bit of time making some Dock Apps from the 90's work mainly for fun and partly to gain a better understanding of various aspects of GNULinux.
The "top" screenshot shows system use with FF running a You Tube video and playing a Jamendo music track and ten open tabs. WindowMaker with five animated tiles and top running. As you can see WM and the Dock apps are using very few resources.
Applications open faster than I have ever seen before and I like the minimalistic old school look.I also like the fact that I have the ability to alter and change things to suit me even with my limited knowledge.when I have a tad more knowledge I will be having a go at funking things up a touch more.

That is one lean system!

Btw, if you want Top to sort processes according to memory use (and not CPU use as it does as per default), type an uppercase F, then a lowercase n, then hit enter.
