The 7 biggest broadband rip-offs

Skpe has been around for a long time. Credit is bought to use your fone to call anywhere in the world for very very very cheap prices.

However 3Network also has free skype usage with their contracts and it's built into their phones for people on the same network.

I myself have used the free VOIP for gaming

Apparently the whizkidz over here have come up with a way to use skype for free.....kids will always try to beat the system i suppose.

Erm we have had it for quite some time, Oh and it is world wide....Owned by e-bay....Very common for Aussies, Kiwi's and Safa's that are over here on their two year p*ss up, as calls to family and friends in their respective countries are free if said families and friends also have Skype...Pretty much every Internet Shop in London that I know of has Skype installed on their computers..As in my pst below/above, however you see it, I use Skype to chat to my Parents in South Africa...Very handy, as call charges can be quite high from BT..Or is that just cause I can't get me mukm to shut up for 5 minutes and let me get a few words in ..?

Zed - as others have pointed out Skype is not exclusive to Eire, it's a worldwide thing.

And it's free for everybody.

I used Skype about four years ago to speak to somebody in America fairly frequently but don't use it much these days.

As for my call to the Zen helpline mentioned here in an earlier post, it cost me £11.00 as I used my mobile. The reason being I thought the call would only take five minutes or so, not 40 minutes. If I had used my BT line if it was charged at the rate mentioned here previously it would only have cost me £1.54.

But as I've mentioned before Zen are good so I'll put up with their few negative aspects. No ISP is perfect and it seems to me the biggest complaints and criticisms are for the big companies, Virgin, BT et al.

It is indeed:
As of December 31, 2007 Skype had 276 million user accounts [Dec 31, 2008: 405 million]. Users may have more than one account, and it is not possible to identify users with multiple accounts. It was reported that 17,186,245 concurrent Skype users were online as of March 23, 2009.
The volume of international traffic routed via Skype is significant, it has become the largest international voice carrier.

Aye, that would explain it....even the 0800 freephone numbers cost you on mobiles :(

The current situation in Ireland - Everybody has a mobile - 80cent a minute in peak times and 13 cent off peak. I use vodafone cos it was on the phone wheni got it.
Landlines however are with eircom and i think its 27 euro a month for the line regardless of calls. Then calls are fairly cheap, not sur really but i think in the region of 8cent a minute. This comes bundled with the net which is 30 a month(i think)
I will be checking this skype out lads.
I did know too that skype was everywhere but just didnt realise how big it was.
We have a new company soon to take over all broadcasting- tv phones and the net called One Vision.
Soon we will be in a total Recall world where we have to pay for the air i tells ya.
Zzzzz
