That unlicensed copy of Winrar

I know I did it the hard way but it is done not and it works.

For me, this whole exercise was "the hard way." Eventually I got not
one but FOUR keys (all the same) and it's working now. In retrospect,
it probably wasn't worth the trouble and effort since ICEOWS is doing
everything I need and WinRar will just be a backup for me, but
sometimes a task burgeons into a QUEST that cannot be abandoned. <g>

I have to agree. The copy of WinRAR that we got cannot be updated, so
we will probably end up having to convert to something else in maybe a
year. TugZip has some appeal to me. I may convert to it anyway.

Why be concerned about updates?
My 3-year-old version of Winrar is still superb.
No worries here.

The donationcoder folks named WinRAR the best archiver. I may stick
with it. I have been using the last freeware version of Power Archiver
but I needed to be able to open RAR files so I installed ZipGenious.
To my way of thinking, ZipGenious tries to do too much, with FTP etc.
WinRAR looks simpler.

I, too, use an old freeware Power Archiver (version 6.11.0) as my default
zip/compression/decompression utility, but I found that it sometimes failed
to handle .rar files successfully. That's the reason I have WinRAR at all.

I find 7-Zip works very well. I used to use Power Archiver way
back in the day, but the free version is too old. We have to move
with the times.
