Tabbed Browser request

Ideally configure your toolbar so that it shows the "New tab" icon to allow
you to add extra tabs as required, and if you really want to go that bit
extra, make the suggested adjustments to activate the One Window option to
force all windows to open in a new tab.

Then get a couple of extensions so you can close a tab with a mouse
click, and navigate between them with hot keys.

I know Firefox is billed as a tab browser but can someone explain what this
really.means? I recently downloaded Firefox which I use as well as Internet
Explorer and both systems seem to me to use essentially the same process -
call it what you will. And the process is selecting where to go to from your
"Favorites" whether you are using Firefox or IE. Are not the so-called tabs
in Firefox just a way of keeping a few shortcuts always in view?

Tabbed browsers actually open and load multiple pages simultaneously. You
can open a "group" consisting of any number of pages. When the first page
finishes, you can start reading it while the rest are still downloading.
This is a tremendous time saver on dialup connections.

I briefly read the same 30 web pages every day, and would have to drop a few
without tabbed browsing.

A good bonus is you can switch from page to page and go "back" without the
frustrating lag of the "back button".

In Opera there is an indicator lamp on each tab which shows when that
page is loaded and ready to read. That is very good. I start loading
10-20 pages and read them as the tabs signal that they are ready to view.

In Opera there is a "recently closed" list you can use when you close a
page, and a second later realize you should have viewed it more. That is
also a very useful function, complementing the usual "history" list.

These functions should be implemented in pure freeware browsers too.

It is in the browsers I use(d).
Maxthon even can reload a page after you close Maxthon completely and
reload it again.
I uses the same shortcut as K-Meleon, where pressing Ctrl-Alt-Z re-opens
the last closed page.

Maxthon has indicators on each tab to show when the pages are finished
downloading, and also an indicator for "unread" tabs. It also has an "Undo"
button (or press "ALT+Z" key combo) that will re-open several recently
closed tabs.

On of my favorite Maxthon features is you can choose to close all open tabs
when opening a new group of tabs. That way, you don't get a zillion tabs
open if you forget to manually close them.

Merry Christmas to all!

So, has anyone found a good Tabbed Browser that doesn't have this
problem?

I've switched to Firefox (which I must vehemently disagree is immature) some
time ago, but I have still have a later version of MyIE2 on my machine. It
was great.

You are all taking my statement out of context:
I said immature compared to its Grandfather Netscape.
Here are just a few reasons.
1. Each update requires you to reinstall plug-ins and then each plug-in has
to be updated to work with the newer version.
2. I found that (on my PC) most skins did not work properly.
3. Forum indicates tons of problems. few of which have been resoved.

Of course for some everything may be working satisfactorally. To each his
own.

You can middle-click to close a tab, without any extensions installed.
Also, as a point of interest, Ctrl-W closes the active tab.
and navigate between them with hot keys.

You can also do this without any extensions installed: try Ctrl-PgUp,
Ctrl-PgDown and Ctrl-Tab.
