I have been using maxthon V. 1.90 for a while. But It seems to have a
serious resource leak,
So, has anyone found a good Tabbed Browser that doesn't have this problem?

Firefox

I have tried Firefox v1.0 I find it very immature, compared to it
grandfather Netscape. Still needs alot of work.
Maxthon is good except for its resource problem.
last version v1 is very good !

With respect, that makes me suspect you've not explored the Firefox
"extensions" to any great extent.

Firefox "out of the box" is designed as a base program, onto which you
bolt those features which you wish to have. If all you're using is the
vanilla base install, it will (by definition) seem basic.

Netscape is based on the Firefox/Mozilla codeline, so I'm a bit
surprised. What exactly are you missing? As Harvey says, check out
the extensions at http://update.mozilla.org/

I have noticed no resource leaks in Maxthon 1.1.090, but some of the web
pages I visit currently have holiday themes that are pretty memory hungry.

You may want to check for spyware and memory-hungry Java on web pages you
are visiting. If no joy, try Slim Browser or Green Browser.

You could try Avant...not sure if it's better resource-wise,
but it has basically the same features as Maxthon.
Firefox 1.0 is my default browser now, though. With the
extensions available, it can do about anything you would want.

And Opera, which can even open new tabs in the *background* (rightclick
and menu, or Ctrl-Shift-Enter); great for opening a series of links
altogether, like on my favourite page, the heise newsticker.

Take a look at Avant <www.avantbrowser.com> It's very similar to Maxthon
but I found it to be more customizable. I haven't encountered any resource
issues with it.

This one is very good & uses the IE engine , like Avant /
Maxthon / Green Browser / Crazy Browser / Slim Browser & others

And the winner is? Don't forget I'm looking for a browser that wont hang
onto resources when its closed. Which is what maxthon does.
Right now Ive gone back to Avant, so will see if they have fixed their
resource problem.

With respect Harvey, I have used Firefox with the extensions i needed to do
what i needed to do. Just didnt like the feel. My problem with resources
could be the fact I have windows98. Of course, XP does not have the Resource
problem that 98 does.

I know Firefox is billed as a tab browser but can someone explain what this
really.means? I recently downloaded Firefox which I use as well as Internet
Explorer and both systems seem to me to use essentially the same process -
call it what you will. And the process is selecting where to go to from your
"Favorites" whether you are using Firefox or IE. Are not the so-called tabs
in Firefox just a way of keeping a few shortcuts always in view?

Essentially it means one window, but multiple tabbed (like a filing
cabinet) screens within that window. You switch between site links
displaying by clicking on the appropriate tab.

As such, you are not ending up running multiple instances of the same
program.

Ideally configure your toolbar so that it shows the "New tab" icon to allow
you to add extra tabs as required, and if you really want to go that bit
extra, make the suggested adjustments to activate the One Window option to
force all windows to open in a new tab.

Just curious- you tried firefox but what about Mozilla? Mozilla needs
far less customization then firefox and you can download either the
whole program or just the browser. I use avant for some software from
my work that will only run on an ie engine. Mozilla, my regular
browser, has many of the same features.

Ah: preferences and set-ups vary a lot: I use FF on Win98SE, and so far
haven't found any shortcomings in it.

Horses and courses, I guess.
