Stupid Newbie Question

Just remember one thing. Unlike high school where teachers
spoon-feed the students, at the higher levels it is a different
story. Students must dig out the info on their own, study it,
consider it, and learn it - regardless of instructor quality.
This is especially true at the college undergraduate level.

Yeah, I've never been convinced that formal lectures
etc make any sense at all at the tertiary level.

Dinosaur stuff.

Just bear in mind that if he's tenured about the only way he's going
to get fired is if he gets caught with his hand in the till or gets
caught forcing his students to have sex with him.

Of course you're right, and my awareness of this makes the situation
worse. How do you go about asking for a credit slip for a whole
semester worth of "education?" This county-run community college has
faculty unionized instead of tenured. I've been told slothful
instructors are even more difficult to get rid of in union schools
(told by people in administrative positions aware of exactly how bad
he is). I'm actually speaking with a county commissioner tomorrow on
the county's role in helping us Computer Science Technology students.

(Can't help wondering if you're the "JClarke" who was at SUNY twenty
years ago.)

There is a good online book at www.pcguide.com, which covers hard drives and
other computer hardware. Your library should also have Mueller's book. Either
are better than most college courses.

I will be ordering the Mueller book today. Several people have
recommended it.
