That indiscriminately copying and pasting freeware descriptions and
posting them to ACF isn't appreciated by many folks.

Back 5 or 6 months ago Tramp was doing the same thing, and guess what
everyone bitched at him too. Sooooo the response is predictable.

yea i remember when tramp, myself, and a cpl others were doing it.
seems to be appreciated by the more than by the less. so i'll keep
doing it from time to time.

So I can waste my time by going and search/hunt through a site to find
that there is nothing I can use?? Hell no, let me pick-n-choose from
P.T.'s list of the ones that look promising. It's a hell of a lot more
efficient that what you suggest. I don't hear tell of anybody twisting
your arm behind your back to make you open up each and every one of
those headers, is there??

Well I'll tell you, I looked at the first 6 or 8 that you posted; went
to the authors sites and found that half of them had updates from what
was listed on pcworld. At that point I realized what was going on and
figured, you were just posting stuff you found without any testing or
recommendation, I was wasting my time by looking at the old stuff you
were posting. If its old and its not on the ACF site it probably isn't
any good anyway.

But please feel free to continue to waste your time posting old stuff
that most folks won't look at anyway when they realize that its just a
flood of untested and unrecommended freeware that's being posted.

indeed. this critter is best killfiled as their type never seems to
learn...

me too! me too I wanna be plonked
Unless of course you aren't going to do like you said you did before.

Good. I always come across worthwhile programs/utilities when
you/tramp etc. post. :-)

Ignore the people who cannot work out how to killfile posts.

Back 5 or 6 months ago Tramp was doing the same thing, and guess what
everyone bitched at him too. Sooooo the response is predictable.

And it used to be Gordon Darling.

I found 2 nice little apps via those postings. I think they're far less
annoying than certain other (unnamed) behavior.

Well said Mel.

The gang of 3 (or is that 4) .......... did I miss the vote on whether it
was appreciated ? ...... seems to be more postings abusing your flooding
than appreciating it. Keep it up plonkers !

Guess I will have to kill the (e-mail address removed), you seem to have appeared
again after I plonked *Protean Thread* ...... now its (Protean Thread).
Anything for attention huh ?

Commented inline .....
So I can waste my time by going and search/hunt through a site to find
that there is nothing I can use??

So you'd rather waste your time reading 'cut and paste' from some plonker
who doesn't even have an opinion about what s/he is posting ??
Hell no, let me pick-n-choose from
P.T.'s list of the ones that look promising.

They would look just as promising at the site they were plucked from,
word for word. Your comment would be fair enough if the poster had said
something like ....... ' Hey, I found XXXX at XXXX.site.com, I tried it
and really liked it because .... blah blah blah' Whether that opinion was
good or bad wouldn't matter, at least the poster would actually have had
the brains to form an opinion. But to cut and paste EVERY link and
description from a site, especially a site such as pcworld (which rarely
has an unbiased review, or the latest version), is bullshit.
It's a hell of a lot more efficient that what you suggest.

What I find efficient is following up on what others here actually find
useful!! Tried, tested and recommended ..... not just links to any old
untried software. Hell, a chimpanzee could be taught to cut and paste !
I don't hear tell of anybody twisting
your arm behind your back to make you open up each and every one of
those headers, is there??

Nope. And I didn't. And now Protean Thread doesn't even have the
opportunity to show me whether or not s/he has the ability to actually
form a reasoned opinion on any software.

But you're right, it's easy enough to killfile him, though I notice
that it needs to be redone every now and again as Mr. Thread morphs.
It all seems very pointless, though, and I suspect it's done to annoy.

I suspect you are correct ;) ,esp given PT's post not 24 hours earlier
lamenting the lack of flooders and trollers recently.

He said nothing about "trollers." But I guess when your case is weak,
lies are the fallback. Lame.

Surely this sentiment can't be coming from the real /3iff //ullins we
have grown to know and "love".

Protean Thread seems to have spent over 2 hours copying descriptions from a
website and posting them here in a great flood. Not a single one contained
any reference to whether or not the poster had tried any of these and/or
found any of them useful. (Well, not the ones I bothered checking ..... I
skipped the rest once I realised it was a flood)

Surely a more acceptable way of posting this type of info would be to
reference the site (www.pcworld.com) and list the 'useful' finds in just a
single post ?

Maybe its just an EGO thing perhaps.
I find it useful to have multiple posts regarding different programs.
I'm much more likely to see a program I recognize. At any rate, the
general consensus is that it is acceptable.

So I can waste my time by going and search/hunt through a site to find

so you'd rather have the ng cluttered up with that critter's
dupe-droppings because you're too lazy to browse a freeware site?

I know I'd rather do things the lazy way instead of the difficult way.
Isn't that what it's all about? Why does the pricelessware site exist?

I find netkopping worse than PT's link flooding.

So when you come to that fork in the road you'll take the path most
traveled.
Isn't that what it's all about?
No!

Why does the pricelessware site exist?
Its a directory of "Best of Breed" Freeware, compiled by the people of
the world; who Locate, Test, and Recommend the Best available freeware
solutions.
I find netkopping worse than PT's link flooding.
Actually they are both in the same class.
Cudos to the freeware authors of the world. Without them their would be
no ACF.

So you are too lazy to killfile him eh ?

As for going to freeware sites some people with limited internet
access read newsgroups offline. They might read 30 posts, decide which
ones sound worthwhile, then go to those 2-3 when online again.

Much easier/faster for such people. :-)

Regards, John.
