Finally I am able to send mail in Windows Mail, I started checking and
unchecking items in accounts, properties, server ... and the last change I
did (which I had done it before) was "my server requires authentication",
then clicked in Settings and clicked "log using same settings as my incoming
mail server" .

I know I did that a couple of times, the only difference is that now, when
I send mail, the McAfee logo in the taskbar start blinking and blinks an
envelope which before it did not do (probably it's scanning the e-mail) so I
wonder if having uninstalled McAfee twice and having downloaded it from the
web, not from the CD, they might have finally updated their program to
vista.....??? That's something worth to check

Still, both of you have been great and I thank you for all the time and
patience you have had to help me.

Thank you again

Gwendolyn

I am surprised you reinstalled McAfee.
It will cause trouble sooner or later.

I know that Norton & McAfee are causing many problems, probably because
their programs have not been updated for Windows Vista.

Once I uninstalled for the 2nd time McAfee , and downloaded it , I was able
to send e-mails, so I guess that what you stated that a program was
interfering has to be true, especially with the answered I got on the 22nd of
July from McAfee which I would like to share in case it can help others when
all things have been done, because it is not only to download version 7.2
that would help send e-mails, one also has to check if access to outlook,
windows mail or outlook express is blocked or has full access, and they gave
the instruction step by step to verify, so I am posting it , maybe to help
one other person:

Here are the instructions :

1. Open McAfee security center, to the bottom right click on "view details"
2. Check whether you have a McAfee Security center with version 7.2. If you
have an older version of McAfee, then try to re-install the upgraded version
from your McAfee account.
3. Close and re-open the McAfee security center, click on "Internet and
network" then click on "configure" towards that right side. You will get the
Internet and network configuration window. Then click on "firewall protection
is enabled". You will have an "Advance" tab. Click on "Advance". Then click
on "program permission" listed on the left side. Then to the right check
whether your e-mail client(outlook, outlook express, windows mail) is given
"full access". If your e-mail client access is showing as "block access". You
will have an option to change the access to "full access" towards the bottom
right hand corner.
4. Get back to the McAfee security center main window, you will have an
option that says "e-mail and IM" then click on "configure" towards that
right side. Click on "E-mail protection is enabled". You will have an
"Advance" tab.Click on "Advance". Then click on "trusted list" listed on the
left side. On the right side, you will have an drop down menu, with which
select "trusted e-mail programs". Then check your e-mail client is "trusted".
If your e-mail client access is showing as "blocked". You will have an option
to change the access to "trusted" towards the bottom right hand corner.
5. Then click on "e-mail scanning" to the left side. Uncheck the option
"scan for outbound e-mail message". Click on "apply" at the bottom. Close
your McAfee Security center, then try to send e-mails.
6. If you have the same problem in sending e-mails, close all the windows,
click on "start", open "control panel", then open "programs and features".
Select McAfee Security center and click on "uninstall" towards the top. Click
on "continue". You will be prompted to select the McAfee services in order to
uninstall it from the computer. Put a check only on "McAfee Virus Scan", then
click on "uninstall" at the bottom. This action will remove the McAfee Virus
scan from your computer and will prompt you restart the computer. Restart
your computer and check whether you are able to send e-mails.
7. In case if you still have the same problem, please call your Internet
service provider. If you are able to send e-mails after uninstalling McAfee,
please get back to us stating the exact error message.

To me, anything McAfee is snake oil. Having to go into its security
settings in order to give Outlook, Windows Mail or Outlook Express
full access is a sign of poor programming. Windows Firewall doesn't
need you to fiddle with its settings.
