What the problem was??? It was the CD ROM- R-W Opt-rite?
It was simply luck that I found out what it was>
inserted CD to copy to media player and half the sound was missing>
tried again and the ROM was jumping Umm I thought I will change that,
installed another and Hey presto :thumb: Now that`s a strange one mucks;)

Been a while since I've been around but I have the same problem, however, mine started when i went to upgrade my processor. All was working well before then. I had the same symptoms after installing. I was thinking maybe a bent pin or something on the cpu sine they can act real quirky after that, (Havent had a chance to throw the old cpu back in to check it.) Figured it also may be a psu failure since when mine blew up (yes, literally blew up so hard it blew transistors off the board and welded metal together) I threw in a real old 300 watt psu. Maybe with all thats running its overloaded with the new cpu since its much faster (2000+ to the 3200+). A new psu was ordered and on the way now but, as far as your findings on the cd-rom, is there something i can change on it to make it work or is a new one req.? (a new one is already on the way anyways.) Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanx

System stats are:
Cant remember mobo and I'm at work
EVGA 6600gt. - 128mb @450/1100
2x1gb 3200 (400mhz)
Very old 300watt psu.

Well I got home and tried the old cpu and it worked... which was just a tease. cause it doesnt anymore.

Tried to just unplug my cd-rom, still didnt work. Thought about just plugging in a spare drive but that just seems like too much work for me right now. Guess I'll wait for all my new parts to come in tomorrow.
