Thanks for the reminder as have not done this for several weeks, so I am way
behind. All I can say is Patrick must be a busy person, he is always have
good updates come out !
Just one question, did you have any trouble downloading this latest (700K)
version ? I have gone to it a few times since I saw your post and Spybot
says it is starting the download, but do not see anything coming in, using
CTL-ALT-DEL, says Spybot is not responding. Might just be too overloaded on
the sever and timing out, this is the first time this as ever happened.
Thanks again

Try changing the download site. Mine defaults to a European site - I
change it to one of the US sites (FXClips).

You may have to go into advanced mode to make the change. I use that
mode, and I don't know what's left out of the basic mode.

The rule, Tedd, when doing a SpyBot update, choose the server closest to you.
If the update doesn't respond immediately, SpyBot has a tendency to freeze with
a server overload, give it the three-finger salute and try another.

Canada/US based users should use the "FX Clips" server.

They used to post an all-in-one updating executable but have since taken that down,
I would imagine it was causing some grief.

Regards and Happy New Year!

Thanks much Rosanne & Siljaline!
You know in all the many times I have used Spybot and told others good
things about it, I never saw the down arrow next the download sites as the
German site worked fine. Just changed it to FX/Clips and its almost
finished. My first few downloads were terrible as he had new rules, new
help .exe, help files all together about 6 items and it took forever. This
new way is much nicer.
never did find an advanced mode Rosanne, where is it ? I checked his help
and did a search and that did not come up with it either. I have version 1.2
(I guess the same as everyone else....)

So happy new year to both of you (already new year for you Rosanne as I saw
your time as set on GMT,but in looking at the message header, it sounds like
its coming from a town a few miles from me here in Redmond, WA..oh well)
and thank you very much for the help !

Tedd,

Start>programs>Spybot. OR R-Click the shortcut>properties>find target.
Either way you may create a shortcut to the advanced mode.

Thanks,
Actually it looks like I have always been running in Advanced mode, it just
does not tell you that. Also the Start icons are interesting, the Advanced
version, just called Spybot is in alphabetical order under programs, but the
easy mode is hidden in ACCESSORIES. I had never seen it there.

In my case both shortcuts are located in the start programs menu; and there
is a definite absence of either one of them in the accessories menu. Anyway,
they all should simply be shortcuts and not the actual executable, which is
located in C:\Windows\Program Files. As you probably know, all settings for
Spybot can be accessed and configured from within the Settings tool menu in
the advanced mode.

Thanks and just let you know I've done it - just picked a less busy site and
it will download right away. Guess it's a popular software and many people
are using it.

Glad to hear you got the update done.
SpyBot is not popular it's _Required_ software.

"Learning curve" to get a full grasp of the application but _well worth the time.
Supported! http://forums.net-integration.net/

"SpyBot is not popular it's _Required_ software."
HA that is an understatement ! When I first installed mine and did the
check for problems, I am a little embarrassed, but it came back with over
400 of them ! Got rid of all and no more pop-ups and even my spam mail cut
down.

I think I would also include Zone Alarm to the required software also, at
least for me, it sure as been great.

AH its so nice about you telling us how to find another download site ! It
must have been 5 times faster then the default Europe site.
Thanks again
Tedd

I find Sygate to be much less of a resource hog than Zone Alarm. It's free
and can be downloaded from www.sygate.com

Cody

I have never tried the Sygate or Kerio firewalls before as Zone Alarm as
just been around so long, I have never checked the resources used by ZA, but
if its a hog taking away much needed RAM in my laptop, I will give the other
a try. Thanks for the link.
In looking at the sygate site, I found the "Managed Personal Firewall" but
the only options were for more info or a demo copy (which I assume is time
limited ? or a online demo) and could not find anything about downloads.
When I went to downloads no luck. Opps tried it again and found a link for
Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 which is downloading now. Will see what
happens !
Thanks again for you idea.

Tedd

Be sure and uninstall Zone Alarm before installing Sygate.

Cody

Cody,
I would never run two firewalls at the same time. But do you have to
uninstall ZA or can you just take it out of startup so that it is not
running ? Not sure if it uses any common files as Sygate or Kerio.
Thanks
Tedd
