Jan, it's not a very well designed GUI. So, I wouldn't put on a hair shirt
and beat myself, if I were you.
I plan looking at some other programs (payware) to see there is something as
effective or better, that's a bit less clumsy to use.
....ahmm.....a 'hair shirt'??...ahh....well...nooo, thank you, but,...I get
the idea...<g>
True, the GUI leaves some to be desired...but, let's be honest...the folks
that provide the freebies are not really going to put everything into it, it
is more or less like test driving a VW Bug, or a RR, depending on what your
ultimate needs are. So, we have to realize that there are probably some
gaps in the quality or the performance to some degree between the freebie
and the one you open your wallet for.
Like you say, it really does ultimately do what you expect it to do...for
free...find and destroy. I also have the AdAware freebie, and yes, it does
sometimes find things SpyBot does not. So, I run them both and I feel that
I have covered most of the possible slugs that might be luring about. I also
have Zone Alarm (freebie), and AVG .0 (free version). I get far more
protection than I had with the McAfee paid program. I get all kinds of Swens
and spam on my Hotmail account, but, I have not had even a new Swen for the
last 2 weeks with my primary OE account. But...that's ok...I'm really bored
with them now anyway.
However, if you are willing to open your check book (on the web, aka CC or
PP), and pay for the 'whole wazoolie' real program...will you get a much
better GUI, an easier and more informative Help file, better support?? I
have been told by many who have done both, that the performance is not any
different...so guess that just leaves the icing Rosettes on the cake. <g>
Thanks for all your additional help and information. I may get the hang of
this yet..;-))
