speech recognition & e-mail messages probs !!!

Hi Guys,

Mark, I was tuckered out too after reading your last post!! Gave me a
migraine and an eye strain both at the same time!!

Grant, I know all the phonetic alphabet (I used to be in the sea cadets)
have tried that, and it still doesn't solve the problem. It is that dam
letter "e". I get it in the end, but it takes several goes with my voice
saying it in different pitches. Most annoying flaw.

Anyway, I have had some good news today, I received a letter from my care
manager who reports that I have received some funding from one of the
Charities I applied to. This means I will have some money to spend on
software and possibly a decent Mic. The only thing that I will be required
to do is provide a receipt to the Charity. So Grant, after reading your last
detailed post, the most prudent thing that I should do, is go for "DNS
version 10". Am I to understand that the "DNS version 10" will already have
all the updated macros that the free knowbrainer software along with the 9.5
Preferred has?

I shall be going in the knowbrainer forums after I have finished this post.
I will be taking your advice first of all, regarding the right Mic, after
that, I will be asking questions on the "Dragon Programs". I assume for
whatever I buy, I will receive a receipt?

Wish me luck!, I am going in!!

Hi Guys,

Mark, thanks for the tip on your last post regarding the way you speak a
sentence using the phonetic alphabet. I will try it, and let you know how I
got on.

Grant, I meant to ask you what are the names of the other forums that you
chair regarding the DNS software? I understand that you can open these
newsgroups direct from your e-mail program. You just pick the ones that you
require or use mostly, then you do not need to go through all the Microsoft
forums.

You both probably already know this. Can you do this with independent forums
such as knowbrainer for instance?

Hi Grant,

Thanks for the speech forums you put up in your last post, I will check them
out when I get a chance, they could add "another string to the bow" as they
say, or "knowledge is power".

I tried to enter the knowbrainer forums yesterday, it was quite late and I
was a bit tired. I get the impression that you do not need to "login" or
"register" to start with. Am I right so far? I went to the "microphone
fourum", it is then I get confused. Could you tell me how to open a "new
thread" or "question" In any forum on the knowbrainer website? I tried to
log in with my real e-mail address and password (this is a different password
to the one I use to log on in here) but it rejected my e-mail and password.
This is after I had received an e-mail from Lunis. So could you post back
with step by step instructions on how to do this?

Also, I looked for you but couldn't see your name, what name do you use in
the knowbrainer forums? I will be using the name andy t.

Hi Grant,

I have done it!! I have joined the knowbrainer website. I did what you
said and re - registered, and this time I received an e-mail with an
"Activate Account" prompt so now I am a member under the name "andy t".

I haven't had the chance to post anything on there yet, because I'm busy
with all the in laws coming round. As soon as I get a chance, I will take
your advice and post the first question about suitable Mic's. See you in
there soon. :-)

Hi Grant,

I have tried to dictate a message in the knowbrainer forums 3 times now.
What will happen is, I will be dictating and virtually getting to the end of
the message, then I will say something and I will hear a click, and It goes
to another page. When I press the blue "back" arrow in the top left corner
on Internet explorer, it brings me back to my knowbrainer message again, only
minus the text in my message, by then have to start again, I will persevere,
but it is so frustrating.

One other thing Grant, when you have finished composing your message in the
knowbrainer forums, where do you click to post it on show for others to see?

Hi Mark,

Yes I have joined the knowbrainer website. I am in there as "andy t" which
is my signature name at the end of every post. The "andy t" is in blue set in
a lovely black background. the "t" in "andy t" has no space between the "W"
of "Window's Vista Speech Recognition 32 bit OS" so it is sort of
camouflaged, I must go back and edit it and put the space in.

Three times I started composing a post to the knowbrainer fourum, and as I
nearly finished each time, the knowbrainer web page clicked out to another
webpage. When I clicked back to "knowbrainer" again, all of my text had gone
and I had to start all over again.

So I took Grant's advice, and composed my post onto my word program first,
and then pasted it from that to the knowbrainer forum, and that worked a
treat except that, (and this brings me to another question for you and
Grant), I had to physically get someone to select all the text In my word
program (Microsoft Office 2007 I think it is) So that I could then Paste my
post into the knowbrainer forum.

So my question is, how do I select the text I want from my word program
using speech recognition? And then to paste it into another application
using speech recognition?

Anyway, I managed to post my first message on the knowbrainer website
regarding MIC's, and even then, I managed to muck that up with a typo showing
a smiley face!! See if you can spot it. It should have been (12").

I have now received a few replies back from the forums on "MICs", that is
not to say, I haven't noted your suggestions as well Mark, which have been
very helpful, I am keeping all my options open : -)

Hi Grant and Mark,

I have just been looking at this thread, it looks like the "Grant, Mark and
Andy Show"

A-HA!! So I have found a flaw in all the speech recognition programs, the
old "selecting only some text" trick. You see I've told you to not use your
hands, as I can't anyway. I still have to get the wife to come and select
only the text that I want, Gee Shucks!! Sometimes I just want to be on my
own.

A quick question to you both: -

Is there anywhere I can get a free copy of "Dragon Pad", Or do I have to
buy it? As I say, I have word office 2007, and I am very happy with it, and I
can do all my drafts in there and then paste from there into any other
application. I just wondered, whether "Dragon Pad" would be worth having as
well?

Hello guys,

WOW!! :-)

I didn't realise you two were in your seventies and eighties, I am a mere
spring chicken compared to you two. I am a mere 50yrs.

Fair Play to you two, you still both have the old gray matter upstairs.

I have been reading both your posts here, I vote we keep this thread going
forever :-))

I did not know these forums were moderated. How do you know who moderates
them. Is it a Microsoft employee? Perhaps they have been entertained in
reading our posts. Do they ever make themselves known? Do they have a big
Clunking Fist that comes down hard and smashes the thread to be bits? :-)

O lord moderators, we beseech you, please do not smite us O Smightiest of
the high!!! We beseech you and pray for your forgiveness. Show yourself to
us, show yourself to us mere mortals. SHOW us your awesome power? O and BTW,
tell us your name? lol

(D"ya think that will work)?

I thought you were both from California, unless I read it wrong-I am sure
Mark said he was from California? Mark, if you are reading this, did you not
say this? I think he is from North California.

What is the difference between South California and North Californa?

I live in Kent, England. Where I live, is about 15 miles away from London.

Anyway

Love you both. Speak soon

I did not know these forums were moderated.

That's because they aren't.

There are some very annoying trolls who appear to be blocked of late,
but that's about it.

I am getting to grips with the Windows Vista "speech recognition" program.
Being a quadriplegic, I find it a Godsend, however, there are still some
things about the program that frustrate me and an answer to this question
would be greatly appreciated.

There is lots of help for you. First of all there is the $15.99 WSRToolkit
(free to people with documented disabilities). This adds 7 of the most
important functions to WSR that is missing:
1. Text Macros
2. Command Macros (step by step)
3. Macro Editor window for editing or creating script macros
4. Train From Text allows you to select the text of your choosing and read
it to train the 'Acoustic Model' of your speech profile
5. Add To Dictionary provides an easy way to add words or phrases to your
personal speech dictionary
6. Add From File parses MS-Word and Text documents of your choosing for
increased dictation accuracy
7. Transcription reads your wave (.WAV) file and transcribes it to text.

In my sign-off is a link to an article on Getting Started with Windows
Speech Recognition.

I noticed in a note to post that you said you were using the built-in
microphone on your computer. Although this may seem very convenient, it is a
poor solution for Speech Recognition accuracy. Even in the tutorial and
training session it points out that a good microphone is very important. A
good microphone not only passes your voice as pure audio, but it eliminates
unwanted background noise that will make it difficult or impossible for the
speech recognizer to understand what you say.

Hmmm???? Considering the WSRToolkit was designed with suggestions and help
from people in the Microsoft Speech work group I

would think this is good information.

Prior to the release of Vista and WSR, I was invited with a select group of
other speech recognition professionals to Redmond. We

previewed WSR and mad suggestions. I was also asked to develop products to
support WSR.

If this be SPAM to you, please feel free to ignore it. If you look at the
products you may actually see their value (at $15.99 or less). Also, we

make the WSRToolkit FREE to people with disabilities.

Kindly rethink your initial reaction to our postings.

Sincerely,

Hello Marty,

I have just recently read your post here. Thanks for all the information
you have put in your post and I have now copied all of it to one of my
documents.
As you mention, I am disabled and I shall be asking for the WSRToolkit and
all the
other information as well.

I have been reading some of the information on Rob Chambers Website and I
believe there is a book on the subject By Brad T. Would I be eligible for
this also?

Just to bring you up to date, I do now have a microphone (The Buddy
DesktopMic) which I have had for about two months now and my accuracy level
with WSR has shot up tremendously as I learned a lot of the workings of WSR
on my own before I bought the Mic

That is not to say that any extra help or devices (such as the WSRToolkit)
will be appreciated and welcomed. (I need all the help I can get)

If you do happen to read this post Marty, perhaps I could send my private
e-mail address to you and then I could gain advice directly from there.
Where should I send an email to you? Would it be to your “eMicrophones
Inc.?†Website address?

I hope you can reply.

We have two websites dedicated to WSR (Windows Speech Recognition):
1. MyMSSpeech at:
http://www.mymsspeech.com
is exclusively dedicated to information and products for WSR. Use the
contact us button on this website to apply for a free copy of the normally
$15.99 WSRToolkit. See and print out the form for documentation of disability.

Sorry, you will need to spend $9.99 for the WSRGuide to macros. Here is the
link:

This is a good point. It is important to have a microphone that is not only
accurate but rejects a lot of background noise. You also need a good sound
card or USB sound pod. Just as importantly you need to understand how speech
recognition works along with the need to train yourself as well as the
software. There is a free PDF file on our website titled, "Getting Started
with Windows® Speech Recognition" at:

Hello Marty,

Thanks once again for all the information in your most recent post. I will
be applying for the WSRToolkit.

One thing I ought to mention and that is I am from the UK so do I still
qualify for the free WSRTool kit? I am a quadriplegic (I had a car accident
in May 2004).
I can prove this and send you my full medical history on the accident if you
like.

No problem about Brad T’s book, the price is very reasonable and I will
probably invest in one once I am in the situation where I can confidently
write my own macros.

Within the next day or so I will complete the form so as to claim a free
copy of the WSRToolkit (providing I am eligible being in the UK).

Perhaps you could put my mind at rest fairly quickly to let me know in a
return post in here that I will still be eligible for it in any case?

Thank you

UK or anywhere is OK. Just fill out the form and scan and submit one
relevant document.
