No, its not just you... I did some work as an audio & lighting tech for a local company for many years, and have seen things that would make Dr's at ENT clinic's cry

one was at an indoor "rave" club that had installed a nice new sound system. this place was the ground floor of an old warehouse, and had been split into 3 rooms (dance, club & chill out) each room having a bigger soundsystem (15k up to 30k - this was before the days of health and safety inspections) the dance room had the biggest system that featured an array of 4 X huge cabs with 2 X 18" bass sub's in each, across the bottom of the stage, and you just could not stand in front of them. we had safety rails in front of them but one idiot jumped them, and fell over.. we had to stop the music so as the bouncers could get him out :D

We all have hearing protection now, but most of us have developed mild tinitus already and one of our lads has already had to retire.. So yes... look after your hearing!

Don't know why they bothered, should have just turned up the Subs, and bounced him back out!

:D

Thought about that.....

One of our systems took a ceiling down, and another shook all the glasses and bottles off a bar :)

ah... those were the days

Jag: I've played a few places like that, couple that spring to mind are Hollywoods at Wandsworth and a club in Peckham that was called Mr B's back then.

Mr B's was mostly a black club, most evenings serious reggae, and around the edge of the dance floor were four cabs, about 8' high, with 4 x 18" bass drivers in them. On the top of each were a row of six bullet tweeters. Who needs mid-range anyway? :D

We didn't use their system, but I did hear it, well, not so much hear it as feel it ;)

Oh, and for some reason the owner wanted a rock night one night a week and hired us. We got Mondays, not exactly the best night of the week, but for a couple of months we pulled a few hundred each night. Then they changed their policy again and we were no longer there.

But - an interesting experience

We dont get too many serious sound systems in my bit of the globe.

There are a few TurboSound rigs around, and one of the companies in Jersey has got a very nice sounding ThunderRidge rig, but it certaining ain't Knebworth (or is that giving my age away?)

It is got too loud it might make the island unstable .....
