TraySaver just bugs my system no end, and I can't get it to work right. I
would like to find some small app that will let me minimize anything to
tray, and hide the icons in the tray that I won't be using. Any
suggestions?

with Effective Desktop

A two step process, but I think it is the best, and you get loads of
additional stuff...

I have looked at a lot of this sort of app.

Hi, I really like dialogmate.

http://www.weird173.net/apps/dlgmate.html

It allows programs to be minimized to tray or even to the desktop which
is unique. It also minimizes borland/delphi applications correctly to
the tray (that is, without leaving behind the taskbar entry)

And, as you so eloquently stated: 'it ain't freeware'. So why post?

And you are the newsgroup goddess??? Help is help, so STFU.

Yes, SISTER, we are all goddess here.

It's not help promoting $ware in this NG, especially when there are freeware
alternatives.

My regards to your brother SYSYPHUS, and happy 2005.

After giving this some thought--I realized that I am WRONG. Sorry.

Any sister that's woman enough to admit she was wrong and to apologize is a
sister of mine. Happy new year sis'.

That's a thing you don't see too often. Kudos, SS.

You were NOT wrong IMO.

I've tried various tray managers. TraySaver was close to what I needed, but
it trashed the language bar on my WinXP and was slightly buggy in some
other regards. TrayManager, it seems, requires subscribing to PC Mag.
Effective Desktop interferes w/ something I'm doing w/ PowerPro, and I'm
too lazy to reconfigure. Sometimes the freeware alternatives aren't quite
what you want.

I didn't know about SysTrayX until you mentioned it. I downloaded it and it
works great: it's exactly what I wanted. I found that although they ask for
registration and $, it evidently does not expire or nag.

You DID say it wasn't freeware, you were not PROMOTING it, and it was just
a helpful suggestion for those who might not find acceptable freeware.
THANKS. I'm using it now!

Don't be intimidated by these self-appointed moderators on the group.
Nothing wrong w/ a non-freeware suggestion now and then when it seems it
might be helpful. This one was.

I see no moderators. I do see yet another "let's turn this into
alt.comp.absolutelybloodyanyware" troll.

'Course there is. If you want to discuss other ware types there are
plenty of groups set up specifically for that purpose. Still, I
expect you'll continue to insist on hammering the square peg into the
round hole.

I don't, since that is nowhere implied.

But we find it more convenient to do so here now and then, where the
subject of an app for a particular need was first brought up. We'll
continue to do so. If you don't like it, don't read it.

Whatever.
