The other options are intel and asus boards. But you are saying that
ASUS is not good on customer support... But Asus seems to offer boards
loaded with features at a good price.

S--Can you say when you'll be installing /running Solaris? If you're
still looking into MB's, I'll keep posting to this thread.

Hello

I want to install solaris within the next 10 days, merely waiting to
get the hardware details straight so I could piece together the most
compatible hardware.

Please keep posting.

Sun is using the pricey Tyan boards for their Ultra20 Opteron
workstations--out of range for me. But I got a few nibbles off the Sun
site. The Gigabyte K8Nxx is a good one for $95 and the MSI K8N Diamond
(MS-7100) looks like a good bet at $120.If you want b-spec "Firewire
800," on most boards today, you'll have to buy a card to run it. I've
read the higher-end MSI boards use good quality caps,so maybe the
mid-level ones are okay as well. I've had good feedback about Gigabyte,
except for Dave's concern about GB's new relationship with Asus.

Asus has a presence here in India, so I thought Asus should be an
accessible choice. But what is that I am hereing from this forum about
ASUS again and again? Every one seems to steer away from Asus....

I checked out on Tyan boards, they are not only pricey but in terms of
components they are way behind - in comparison with what Asus offers
for the same price.. Will check out on Gigabyte and other boards,
especially their availability / presence in India.
