It's your choice.

You have the freedom to wait until your current hardware naturally fails....

It's not my choice. It's the manufacturers' choice. Where are the
source codes? I didn't announce the "death penalty".

Who's going to teach me how to port 32-bit drivers to 64-bit?

1) What manufacturer forces you to do anything? You will be able to buy XP
for a long while yet, if you were so inclined.
2) How is buying a new PC with Vista less environmentally friendly than
buying a new PC with XP?
3) Source Code? Why should they give you the source code? Would Ford give
you the plans to the Focus?
4) What Death Penalty? WTF are you on about?
Who's going to teach me how to port 32-bit drivers to 64-bit?

Why do you want/need to port 32-bit drivers to 64-bit? Vista comes in both
32 and 64-bit variants and with a bigger-than-ever library of drivers. If
the drivers you need aren't there you can approach the hardware
manufacturers. If they don't support your hardware under Vista then don't
buy it.

1) What manufacturer forces you to do anything? You will be able to buy XP

All the greedy (mostly USA) manufacturers in the world.
3) Source Code? Why should they give you the source code? Would Ford give
you the plans to the Focus?

Without source codes, capable programmers could port x32 drivers to x64.
Of course, only if Micro$oft allowed that to happen first.
4) What Death Penalty? WTF are you on about?

If Vi$ta x64 is not going to have drivers for older hardware,
that's a death penalty to them.
2) How is buying a new PC with Vista less environmentally
friendly than buying a new PC with XP?

Once there would be no drivers, a lot of old and functioning
hardware would be forced to be discard. You got it, did you?

5. Will USA recycle all those old/discarded hardware parts for this planet?

USA?

My new Vista machine is mostly Taiwanese. None of the top-level components
was manufactured in the USA.

Few are from the USA. Most are from Asia.

You presumably meant 'with source code'?

I ask again, why would anyone want to provide you will source code?
Microsoft are not a charity. If you want free software go the Linux/OSS
route.
If Vi$ta x64 is not going to have drivers for older hardware,
that's a death penalty to them.

If you want to use your older hardware, stick with your older operating
system.
Once there would be no drivers, a lot of old and functioning
hardware would be forced to be discard.

So don't use Vista.
You got it, did you?

No. I think you have got it. And it's affecting your brain.

1) What manufacturer forces you to do anything? You will be able to buy
All the greedy (mostly USA) manufacturers in the world.

Greed is universal, sir, and you are no exception. In your case, however,
you can add prejudice and xenophobia to the list.
Without source codes, capable programmers could port x32 drivers to x64.
Of course, only if Micro$oft allowed that to happen first.

I take it that you're a communist. Communism does not reward hard work with
proportional compensation. That is why the only motivation for a Communist
to work is fear. And fear produces only the amount of work necessary to
avoid punishment. That is why Communist countries are poor, except for those
who are in the ruling class. Of course, that begs the question, why is there
a ruling class in every Communist country? Isn't that a philosophical
contradiction? Perhaps it is because greed is universal.
If Vi$ta x64 is not going to have drivers for older hardware,
that's a death penalty to them.

People have been saying this sort of B.S. for decades. Your prediction is,
by inductive reasoning, most likely to be false. Microsoft is not motivated
by some Machiavellian desire to rule the world, like Communists. It is
instead motivated by the desire to succeed. Therefore, the decisions that
Microsoft makes are likely to be arrived at by means of a logical analysis
of what action is most likely to result in their success. So far, they have
been very good at it.
Once there would be no drivers, a lot of old and functioning
hardware would be forced to be discard. You got it, did you?

Computer hardware, like everything else, becomes unusable after a span of
time. Like everything else, it can be recycled. And where do you expect it
to be discarded? I imagine it will end up on the same planet it originated
from, in a different form that it had before humans changed it. And if
humans don't change the form of matter, nature does it all by itself. That
is why there are canyons in the world, and why the island of Krakatoa no
longer exists.

In conclusion, unless you are living in a Communist country, I would suggest
learning to think for yourself. Being an advocate without knowledge is an
exercise in futility.

If you are living in a Communist country, I would suggest finding a way to
escape from it, unless you are happy with being motivated by fear.

Where there's a Will, there's a William.

Why?
My older hardware works including a 5 year old HP printer.
The newest hardware in my computer is a nearly 2 year old video card.
Vista works fine for me with older hardware.
Are you trying to spread more FUD?
This is no different than any other hardware or software upgrade.
Do you need Vista?
If so, get it for the features you need.
Most do not need to upgrade and will probably do so when the get a new
computer.
Windows XP will probably be supported for several more years so if the
operating system does what you need it to do, stay where you are.
If your current OS does not, then by all means change.
But it is not the OS, software or hardware which makes you upgrade.
It is your own needs and desires since no one forces anyone to upgrade
anything.

So if your subject is a question, No.

From the lifecycle page:

Windows XP Professional (Business software)
Mainstream support will end two years after the next version of this product
is released. Extended support will end five years after mainstream support
ends.

Windows XP Home Edition (Consumer software)
Mainstream support will end two years after the next version of this product
is released.

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Consumer software)
Mainstream support will end two years after the next version of this product
is released.

(No information is available for extended support for consumer software.)

My focus is about old hardware, not political ideal.

So adoption of Vi$ta x64 should happen when all my older hardware

Not only hardware but software as well may drive the need for a new
operating system.
No one should upgrade anything from any source simply because a newer
version is available.

Here is New Jersey we have a recycle facility that grinds up the silicon
chips to produce sand which is then used for beach erosion mitigation.<g>

Do what you want. It's your computer. If it does what you need it to do
then keep doing what you are doing. Nobody buys an OS just to have it.
They buy it because it does things for them they have not been able to do or
because it does what they do now better. You're the only one who can judge
which changes you need to make and when.

Build one for each continent on this planet. :)

Agree. but the manufacturers have to support older hardware at all cost.
