ZoneAlarm continues to block this file and its's variants and I can't
find any info on it. When it started, I didn't have MS Framework
installed on my PC so I don't think it has anything to do with that
app.

What? There was a link on a forum that told you

If you had followed through on all the responses, you would have
concluded that no one knows what these files are.

Google for "Process Explorer". You can use it to find what process is
using SL*.tmp to connect to the web.

As I tried to show him in *September*, it's Windows Update trying to
update the .NET Framework. He probably needs to either uninstall the
..NET Framework or fix his install...
All about SLxxx.tmp(AGAIN)<sigh...>:

I remember your response in September - but have not found any evidence
to support it. At the time, I didn't have .NET Framework installed. Do
you have any other sites I can visit that will show the same answer? No
offense meant - but I keep getting different variations of SL*.TMP and
am concerned about accepting them.

sorry for his luck(a format/clean install would have been a lot faster)
One would think that after 2 months he would have found a solution.

A clean install is not an option - I have over 150 apps on my machine.

So, they are pirated and you don't have actual CDs or installable files? How
would be prepared for full loss of the machine?

I'm not going to do any more of your homework for you. Seek and ye
shall find...
BTW, .NET framework is installed with many apps, video adapters,
etc, etc. I doubt you did not have .NET installed when you began to have
the problem ;) Disable "BITS" and "Automatic Updates"(temporarily) in
Services and see if the issue is resolved. Post your problem on the
Zone Alarm forum, as well. It has been discussed there many times...

A Microsoft Error has occurred. All user data will be irretrievably
lost. Your Windows configuration is invalid. Windows will now close.
Thank you for using Microsoft, THE POWER OF INNOVATION.

It's not what you think. I have not had to reformat my machines for
over 10 years. Having to start all over again would be a monumental
task. Just think about all the upgrades and settings and usernames and
passwords, etc.

You're not doing my homework for me. I have no problem doing my own
research. It just so happens that I haven't been able to find this
subject tackled anywhere I've looked. Guess I've just looked in the
wrong places or at the wrong time. In addition, I'm not a well man and
your attitude is not welcomed by me. If I knew where to look, I would
have done it by now.
