If you're going to post Trialware links to a Freeware group,
you might mention the licence.

JeffM ....

I haven't checked the latest license
at the site recently, but unless there
have been changes Zoner Draw 3 is freeware ....

Belated thanks to all three of you. Your comments are appreciated.

I had Gimp already and had forgotton about it. However, when I looked again
and
found a folder with makefiles, I ran for cover.

I had another look at Serif's 4 and again tried to download. It went very
smoothly this time
for some reason and it works very well.

Thanks again for all the help.

FWIW .. I should think that Gimp and Serif 4 are more than merely
'simple drawing programs'. Gimp seems to me far too comprehensive
to handle easily, and it takes up a tremendous amount of room. Serif 4
is fairly proprietary in the formats it supports, and never seemed
friendly to me.

Which brings me to ... PhotoFiltre (currently v5.6.1). Now, *here* is
a marvelous freeware program that does everything you want, and
probably runs rings around the aforementioned wannabees.

You really ought to check it out before commiting yourself to a
package that might not serve you well.

Try: http://photofiltre.free.fr/utils/pf-setup-en.exe

Agreed that PhotoFiltre is a great program. However as a paint program, it's
only fair. As a drawing program, it's simply not. It's not meant for
drawing, and would be tedious for anything more than a simple rough sketch.

A good drawing program that's frequently overlooked is the drawing applet in
OpenOffice.org. (OOo). It's quite competent, and even has some 3D objects.

I sent this twice already and it didn't appear on my news server.
