Yes.. that was my final take..a speck of dirt in or near the laser
itself..or some electronic fault.

Anyone know where the laser lives in a 6P or how to get at it?
I have a strong feeling that a lens brush with a bellows on it -
which I have - would probably fix this..

I've not opened a 6p, I've opened quite a few others. It's normally quite
logical (once you've got the outer bits off. The case snaps together from
the sides using concealed latches. The easiest way to find a diagram of it
is to go here:

This is for the uk (which I think you are and may not work anyway).
Basically, you need to find the " hp parts store". Putting in the printer
name should eventually lead you to some diagrams of the machine from which
you can see where the laser actually is. It's almost always just above the
toner/drum unit.
In this case it _might_ be quite difficult to remove. AND there is a strong
possibility that it is an electrical fault (nothing physical at all)
associated with the laser unit, about which you can do nothing.

Still if you've got nothing better to do other Christmas.... <g>.

You can email me if you like, I might have some useful information.

Well..it looked like at least 3 hours work, no guarantee of success and
if something was broken at least £100 of parts..I can get a refurb
6Pmachine for 45 quid shipped..no brainer really innit?

I do...but not right now. Right now I need a PRINTER.

I suspect I will port he RAM over to the newer one and then pull this
one to pieces when I can find the time.

If its beyond repair..well strip it for spares and flog them on Ebay..
