You asked>> What about the I386 folder that is already in Windows?<<
*** i ask, Is it located in C:\?, not C:\ windows, driver path, or any other
C:\windows, just plain C:\***
***I ask 'If the one you currently have is not operational, and the sfc is
asking for the one from your cd, then that is what you need to do.'***
***I said 'If it doesn't say C:\ then you need to tell the computer....'
***I ask, not sure wjat you mean by this.***

It is in C:\ and C:\windows as I just said.

I think it is operational everything else works fine. also see:

Dave Patrick said in this tread:(note that these paths should be one level above the \i386 folder)
So I think it should say C:\Windows. If you want to go to C:\Windows\I386.

Make a new folder in the root directory say I386a and have the Registry point to that as the source
path (temporary) So you don't loose all your other files in Windows.

Prior to doing the sfc /scannow, go into Event Viewer and clear out the
logs.

1. Open Event Viewer
2. Right-click on item (e.g., Application or System)
3. Select Clear all Events
4. Click on NO (unless you want to save the log)
5. ReRun sfc /scannow
6. When error occurs ... click on Cancel. It will notify you that:

If you cancel, Windows might require you to insert a CD later. Are you sure
you want to skip this file?

7. Click Yes
8. Check Event Viewer (System), there will be a Windows File Protection
error event. Double-click and you should see the filename.

This will occur for each file it cannot find. If this happens continually,
you should check your I386 folder and registry paths.

I seems to have problems with IIS (internet Information Server ... which is
not installed) and some Media Center files.

Thank you so much Lawrence, You don't know how much you have helped me.

BTW I was so much in a hurry to send this to HP I sent it here. Sorry about that mistake.
