Setting up my network

i havent tried plugging it into another slot instead of the WAN. so what does it mean then when it says Wired LAN 10/100 and it also says 56k when it lists the specifications?

I have the Acer Aspire T140 pc

Edit: Also what would an intergrated network adapter be?

Have a look at the rear of PC it looks like a connector as on the router may be between USB ports if you have any on the rear of PC

You clever so and so. You got it. I just looked at the usb ports and noticed the LAN slot. :thumb:

An integrated network adapter performs the same function as a PCI network card.

Have a look in Device Manager and see if such a device shows and as itsme suggested, look at the rear and see if you can spot an ethernet port, it's usually near the usb sockets about half way down.

And my wife says I`M WITH STUPID! when we go out. HA! HA!

btw, before you connect to LAN port, check the LAN is active in device manager. If not, you may have to load drivers from Motherboard CD.

But if your machine came pre-loaded with OS, it's probably currently active.

Thanks for your help, both of you. I am a little confused with something though. Im using the ntl set top box and it has an ethernet cable from the pc that goes into a balck thing that says Crossover adapter on, which then goes into the back of the box into the port. Why has it got this?

Also when i go to my home back after taking out the usb adapter and connecting it to the network port on my pc ntl asks me to login as it is a new set top box or something, i spoke to them about it yestersay and he gave me password but i dont know why it keeps asking me to do this when i go to google which is my homepage. When i go to another site it is OK.

Maybe i have to speak to NTLl about it?

OK.
Now that you can get onto the net we are getting somewhere.:)
First shut the PC down>now take all the cables regarding Ethernet out of the slots.
1 put the cable SUPPLIED by NTL [ usually BLUE] into the modem ETHERNET NOT USB.
2 connect the other end to your ROUTER [IN SLOT.]
3 now connect one cable out of the router into the first PC.
4 now do the same with the other PC.
start up and you should be ok
as Floppsy stated make sure your drivers are installed.
as far as the password is concerned if you use Outlook express you can set it up in the tools> options! on OE.
Let me know how it develops:p

i will let you know how it goes tommorow, thats when i should get anotherm onitor for the other pc. The dleivery said i will get it by monday but as it is bank holiday do you think i iwll get it as it is being sent by courier?
