It's the current rate, just as VB6 (being the very last and latest version
of Visual Basic) is still current to millions of people. But they're
Australian dollars, because Michael C lives in the dry and arid wastes of
Australia. They're not worth as much as real dollars. The above conversion
is about right:

It is so sad that Michael C needs to stay in such dreadful places though. A
cardboard box would probably be as comfortable, and even cheaper, which is
why I suggested that he takes one with him next time he goes walkabout :-)

You poor soul. I really do feel sorry for you. Perhaps you can bring a
cardboard box with you next time you come over? You should feel
comfortable in that and it will save you dragging your feet all over
London in a futile search for a £7 per night dirt hole of the kind you are
used to staying at in Australia. From my own experiences I have found
rooms in fairly decent Australian hotels to cost something in the region
of £70 to £80 per night or more (ten times what you are used to paying for
your own hotel accommodation it would seem!), unless of course you are
prepared to stay in something considerably less than a three star. That is
of course a bit cheaper than

Good hotels close to the city are quite expensive here but if you go out

here in the UK (although not massively cheaper) and is what is to be
expected in an arid scrubland country such as Australia where building
land is cheap due to the fact that there are more sheep than people.

Actually land is very expensive in the cities here, apparently comparable to
New York.
Incidentally, my daughter spent about a month in Australia some months ago
and she spent a week in Melbourne, where you live yourself. The hotels
there were not much cheaper than they are here in England, and in fact
some of them were more expensive. The hotel she stayed at in Melbourne was
a fairly average four star hotel and it cost her something in the region
of £100 sterling per night, which I personally think is quite expensive
for a country such as Australia which has plenty of arid scrubland for
building and more sheep than people. She did go to a few other places in
Australia, some of which she quite liked, Adelaide for example, but she
thought that Melbourne, where you live yourself, was a very dirty place,
especially the people who were generally extremely uncouth. Many of the
restaurants in particular were very drab, and some of the "down market"
eating houses, such as McDonalds, were dreadful. There were pigeons flying
in and out all the time and there was bird sh_it on the tables and on the
chairs and none of the staff ever bothered to clean it off. None of the
Australian customers seemed to mind that at all, and they happily sat on
sh_itty chairs and ate their food off the sh_itty tables as though they
were used to it, which of course they were. Dreadful place. The hotel she
stayed at was quite nice though, although it did cost her about £100
sterling per night. I really do pity you for having to live in sh_itty
little backpacker hotels at £7 sterling per night! Must be dreadful for
you. Mind you, I suppose you must be used to it living in a dirt hole like
Melbourne.

Gees mike this is pretty much a completely racist rant. Quite suprising even
for you, a new low I would say. What on earth brought on such an attack?
Sounds like your daughter is quite a negative person, I can't imagine where
she got that from. She must have a good imagination because much of what she
says is just plain false.

Gees mike this is pretty much a completely racist rant. Quite
suprising even for you . . . What on earth brought on such
an attack?

What brought it on, as you put it, was the fact that you were telling me
about the "sh_it hole" hotel you stayed at in London so I thought it only
fair to tell you about the various sh_it holes I know about in Melbourne,
where you live. If you can't take it then don't dish it out. Besides, I
think it quite funny really, but funny in a nasty sort of way, for an
Australian to lecture me about racism when Australia is just about the most
right wing and racist country I have seen for a long time. They way you
people treated the true owners of Australia, the aboriginies, and the way
you are still treating them, is nothing short of disgusting.
Sounds like your daughter is quite a negative person

Well not really. She just doesn't like sitting on chairs full of bird sh_it
and eating off tables full of bird_shit, as she was expected to do in a
McDonalds in Melbourne. Nevertheless, I wouldn't have mentioned it to you
were it not for the fact that you felt the need to tell me about the sh_it
hole of a hotel you stayed at in London.
I can't imagine where she got that from. She must have

She certainly didn't imagine the pigeons flying in and out of McDonalds, or
the bird sh_it on the tables. That was a fact, and there is simply no reason
she would mention it if it were not true. That's not saying she didn't like
Australia though, because she did. She loved the weather, and she liked
Adelaide very much, and in fact I quite agree with her there because I
stayed in Adelaide myself for about six weeks a few years ago and I found it
to be a really clean and very nice place. But Melbourne, where you live, is
a different kettle of fish altogether.
