You're welcome.
For those who did not see my response, it says:
Make sure the file is not open in Word.

I have just finished writing a letter with Word 2007 and saved it as a Word
97-2000 doc so that I can print it out on my PC (which has Word 2000). When
I go to send it via Outlook it says that 'Some of the files could not be
found and could not be attached to the message'. How can I send this doc?

Thanks

Are you having the same problem as "JT"?
That error happens when the file is still open in Word.
The file you are attaching to Windows Mail cannot be open in any other
program.

Thanks!!! That worked for me. Now, quite why they designed Vista that way
is another question.....

It's not a Vista thing, strictly a Windows Mail limitation. If you upgrade
to Windows Live Mail, you can attach files that are still open elsewhere.

What are Vista type fonts? And do you need to use different fonts when
saving it as 97-2003 so the recipient can open it?

Thanks Gary, that worked for me as well....is this something that will always
be the case or can you adjust the security settings in tools...

This helped me too! Now I need to know once it is sent why the sender (who
is using the old Windows Version) cannot open it? I understand there might
be a way to convert it before sending it?

Thank you, Gary!! My Vista comes with a 'trial' program of Office 12 (or
some more recent version of Microsoft Office Word). Of course, I would have
to pay more money to continue with the newer version of Office that came with
the computer, so I put on the version I had with Microsoft XP. When the
Vista Microsoft mail would not 'recognize' the Word file, I feared that it
was trying to force my purchase of the newer version of Microsoft Office
Word. Your solution worked, however!!! Thank you! (I still wonder if MS is
trying to force the purchase of their newer Microsoft Office Word with the
Vista, though.)

Thank you.
Megan

You're very welcome, Megan.
I own a copy of Office 2007, but I prefer using my older copy of Office 2003.

hi gary,

is this possible to add the correct validation message?
Some thing like " The file is already opened. Please close this and try again"

Thanks
Raghu

Microsoft will not accept any suggestions for improvements to Windows
Mail, since they stopped all work on it since about July 2006.
That feature works properly in the replacement program, Windows
Live Mail.
