Thanks for the reply.
I think I mentioned in an ealier post that the PC that I need this for is
one that I am not able to install any 3rd party software on, and I believe
that eliminates 'Agent Ransack' as I understood from the info I got b4.

No problem! Only brought it up again because you had posted about
downloading/trying the other product in this thread (after stating no 3rd
party programs).

According to 'Stan' it is a "...command-line tool, so there's nothing to
install."
Im sure its not a fancy interface, but I was a DOS junkie so Im sure it will
be fine if I can ever figure out how to download.
Do you know of any other software that might be similar?

No, akm. Sorry. Have you considered using the index service and query
system built in to XP? Using services.msc, drill down to Indexing Service>
Query the catalog. This isn't very useful on a home computer or home
network (the environment that I'm accustomed to) but can be useful with a
larger network/domain.

Thank you for the alternative.
I just tried run 'services.msc', scrolled down to 'Indexing Service', and
see where the 'Description' mentions 'querying language' but could not find
any 'Query' menu function after clicking on the service.
What am I missing?

Hmmm, not sure what you might be missing. Be sure to go through
Administrative Tools or right click My Computer> Manage. Or just type
compmgmt.msc into the run box. If you bring up services.msc it doesn't show
in that console - instead it just shows whether the service is started.

If still no luck, might check to see if the indexing service is enabled.
Then check in Computer management to be sure at least one folder is allowed
to be indexed. Perhaps when all the pieces are in place, the Query form
will appear. Allow some time for the catalog to build. This can be a little
CPU intensive but once it's built it will quiet down. New additions to
monitored folders will be added to the existing catalog - so you don't face
rebuilding the entire catalog.

FYI: In Computer Management (compmgmt.msc)> Index Service, I see Indexing
Service> System with 3 subs beneath: directories, properties and "query the
catalog."
