In Windows XP Pro, just right click, go to Properties, summary. Then add
the URL under author and any notes that you want about the program under the
comments section.

Thanks, works in xp Home too.

Still using it, with Opera (manual insert mode).

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

Will give it a try as this was what I tried doing totally manually for a
couple of days but soon got bored with it. When I saved the web page,
I'd open it with notepad and add the tags etc to make the URL a link at
the top - oh so boring.

Thanks Bjorn (don't suppose I'd be lucky enough that it will work
automatically with firefox :)

Ahh, just used it and it's way easier than before!

If you are using Firefox, mozilla, netscape and maybe a
couple of others you can get an extension that allows you to
copy info from the d/l site along with it's url to the
clipboard. Then, when you open filenote, you can simply
paste the info into the .txt file, close and automatically
save your file - no typing! Sorry, I don't recall where I
got this extension. Maybe someone else has a quick handle
on it.

Correction ..... FileNote shell extension uses whichever text editor you
have set up as the default association for .txt files.

Unfortunately, that is not so. I have CryptEdit asociated with txt but
FileNote opens WordPad instead. Too bad, as CryptEdit supports rtf, so
it would be a breeze to copy descriptions and links from the web page
and paste them into CryptEdit--and have the links functional. That's
not the case if Notepad is used; it accepts just the text associated
with the link, so the link is lost. When I re-open the txt file
created in Notepad, it's opened by CyptEdit, but the links are gone.

I've sent an e-mail to http://www.moonsoftware.com/support.asp, but I
don't expect anything to happen, given the age of the program, and the
fact that it's freeware. Maybe if we all ask? :o;

It's still a terrific program, as is.

It is hard coded in Filenote.dll to open notepad.exe and create a file
with the .txt extension, but thanks to your reply mine now opens
wordpad.exe and creates a file with the .nfo extension.

Sorry Mel, on reflection you are correct ...... I have my favourite text
editor RENAMED as notepad.exe ........ did it a long time ago and forgot.

Maybe you can use the trick we use to get metapad to open instead of
notepad. Rename Cryptedit to wordpad.exe and overwrite wordpad.exe with
it. When the system starts what it thinks is wordpad you get cryptedit
instead.

Great idea! I'll do it now.

Thanks, Larry

Great idea! I'll do it now.

Metapad does not need any other files to work, but your cryptedit may
need the files and folders which normally reside in the cryptedit
working folder. If that is the case you will probably have to copy
those files and folders to the same folder where you copy the renamed
cryptedit exe file.

Good luck, and keep backup copies of all files, in case it doesn't work.
