Recommend Newsreader?

If you like 40tude you should also take a look at MesNews. MesNews
seems a little more finished, you can post yEnc files, less crashing.

MesNews might be "finished" for French speakers. It certainly isn't
for English speakers. Many menu selections, error codes, dialogs etc.
are either wholly, or partly, in French.

It is nowhere as capable as Dialog but it is still a pretty nice
newsreader.

well as reading) multi-part yEnc binaries now. Very nice program.

Well, on closer inspection. Sorry. Didn't mean to belittle 40tude. Still,
the new beta has fixed a lot of bugs.

Is there any English manual (I didn't have French lessons)? It isn't
exactly like Agent or Gravity, and I am having difficulties to
understand the settings, even in English, because I don't know what
effect they are meant to have.

There only appears to be a French FAQ for MesNews so I am pretty
certain there isn't an English manual.

Just had some problem with it/my system and got a whole stream of
error popups. Ended up needing to re-boot to get everything working
right again.

You can get a rough translation from Google. A little extra work, maybe
40tude would be less time consuming? Who knows. For what it's worth (watch
the word wrap)

There is a German translation too.

Also, as another option, AltaVista. I think AltaVista has more languages,
but for now, they do translate French to English.

Ok, the only thing I need to know is, does Mesnews allow for offline-
tagging headers for downloading the body afterwards. My impression is
that it is programmed mainly as an online newsreader, and I need one
that is reaslly good for offline work, as I do have only 50 hrs included
in my monthly contingent; everything above has to be paid by the minute.

I have a broadband cable connection. I haven't really tried to use
these programs for any kind of local caching. So no recommendations.
Sorry. Maybe someone else on the forum?
 
I use The_Bat! from RitLabs for my email needs, and Outlook Express for a
Newsreader... Outlook Express is good for this!
40tude Dialog is just overkill.... a bloated newsreader... I wish he would
come up with a "lite" version.

You can download headers only then select which ones you want the body
of.
