What makes you think RC2 does not 'meet' the standards then?.

[snip]

Because it has the same warning at the top as on build 5728:

"Please note: This build may not have the same level of support or
servicing via Windows Update as RC1, and you may not be able to upgrade
from this build to the final version of Windows Vista"

Fair enough.

I am using the 64 Bit Edition (downloaded it off MS Connect Yesterday), and
I have no Device Driver Incompatibilities (with the sole exception of my
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Sound Card which will not install without
Digitally Signed Device Driver's), Just FYI.

The Windows Vista Beta Program Manager (in the Private Beta Newsgroups),
said that MSDN and Tech Net Plus will indeed get this RC2 Build Sometime
Next Week at the Latest, Just FYI.

That is a valid point Tom.

Just think, though! In January, we (MSDN Subscribers) will be able to
download the shipping version which most people won't be able to do.

I upgraded from Vista Beta 2 to RC 1 build 5600 and then to build 5728
without problems (on a separate PC devoted to previewing Vista)
- and will now try to upgrade further to build 5744.

....and I succeeded:-)
....

5744 is an EDW interim build of the RTM Branch. Why would something called
RC2 just be an interim build and not something more?
