Random Freezing in RC1

I've already tried build 5728, and the problem remains the same... :( In
another forum, they said it could be some kind of problem with the disk
controller... that's why some files and applications got corrupted (in my
case, it happens everytime... I end up doing a scandisk, correcting a lot of
errors... this has made me format the Vista partition a lot of times :S).
Does this situation happen to you, too?

I have to do that when my pc goes into a power saving mode. Power management
does not work very good in Vista.

The issue with random freezing has been taken care of in the latest Build
5728. However you wont see the effect if you dont do the CLEAN INSTALL. DO
NOT install vista as an upgrade. IT WORKS

If you still seem to have the issue then be assured your issue will be
resolved in later builds. It only means that microsoft has identified the
issue and in later builds almost all hardware will be covered which faces
driver isues causing Vista to be freezed.

If you have any more queries feel free to mail me at (e-mail address removed)

Known issue in Vista RC1 5600 build. Taken care of in build 5728.

Hurry as microsoft is about to close the 5728 build from downloads. However
the 5600 build will still be available for download(most probably mid to
third week oct). Sounds stupid is int it??

SOLUTION TO RANDOM FREEZING

Finally finally a solution to random freezing. This works on Vista 5728 and
have not tried it on 5600.

1. Access Device Manager

2. Click Disk Drives

3. Right Click on your hard drive and then click properties, click policies
and uncheck "Enable write caching on disk"

Do this to all the drives.

Apart from this disable all items in power management. That is all hardware
should be set to never. You wont find 5728 locking up

Why does this happen?? I guess its to do with some faulty drivers and power
management causing vista to behave like this. thank you

Thanks a lot, it has resolved the freezing problem on build 5600. However, I
still have problems with corrupt files. My Windows Live Messenger almost
everytime get corrupted, and I keep getting the nasty message "The file
structure in the disk is corrupt and unreadable. Please run ChkDisk..." or
something like that, for various files. And ChkDisk keeps finding a long list
of corrupted entries. And I keep reformating and reinstalling Vista :S
I think that problem isn't linked to random freezing, after all. Do everyone
has any information about this problem?

I'm experiencing the same problems described by several other users in this
thread, with the only difference that, after freezing, my system try to
reboot and gives DISK BOOT FAILURE errors... After many safe mode rebootings,
the file system corrupted and I had to re-install Windows Vista RC1 (losing
all data!). I notice that the freezing occures mostly when I'm not on the PC
(i.e. when I leave it downloading).

My system specs:
MB Asus 8N SLI - Deluxe
Athlon 64 3000+
768 Mb RAM
Hd Maxtor 80 Gb
Nvidia GeForce 6600

I disabled the write caching on disk, as suggested by Mufaddal (thanks for
the hint!), and I will tell if it works.

P.S. Is it really impossible to get the build 5728? No chance to get it
somewhere?

I have had good success with this problem by going to Power Options, change
advanced settings and under Processor power management and up the minimum
processor state to 25-35%. It has seemed to minimize the problem. This maybe
a solution other than having to "clean install". Let me know if anyone has
any success with this may be those power hungry AMD processors (I love them
though).

i am having exactly the same problem, extremely irritating, althought i am
running RC2 and getting the exact same problems. I have noticed that my pc
only locks up compeltely thought when i either try to run a system rating in
windows user experience, view videos in media centre, watch videos in media
player or use windows movie maker.

Windows Vista RC2
Intel Celeron 2.6GHz
768MB RAM
XFX Nvidia Geforce 6200A
