i need to get some more RAM for my pc. currentlry it is 512mb but i am looking to get at least a gigs worth. is it important to know if the RAM i buy is compatible with my computer or not?

any ideas????

Yes it is important - we need to know the spec of your PC - motherboard make/type, processor etc. - also what make/type of RAM is already installed so we can try to match it.

Everest Home Edition will give you all the information about your PC

Thats true Mucks, but have you noticed that they have stopped doing the free Home Edition since yesterday - they have removed it from their site and will no longer issue updated versions :(

The last version was 2.20, which I have and can send to those who want it :thumb:

No way.... Lucky i d/l'ed the latest one a few days ago!! Tight buggers!!!

most important thing i concider is how fast your MB can run the RAM and matching that value

example if you fit 1gig DDR400 o an MB that only does upto DDR333 itll end up slowing down the RAM and potentially giving you a lower total

ok, i have found out the spec's of my pc:
motherboard: ASUSTek computer INC. (A7N8X-VM)
RAM: 512mb (2 x 256 DDR-SDRAM)

The Asus A7N8X-VM motherboard has 2 memory slots and takes PC3200 DDR400 memory (max 2GB).

To get 1 GB you will have to remove the current two sticks and buy 2 x 512MB sticks, if you want 2 GB then get 2 x 1GB sticks.

I would suggest Corsair Value Select which is highly compatable and comes with a lifetime guarantee :thumb:

oh bugger ...

Everest is still available here ...

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html

... but maybe Ian can Host it for us?

Been meaning to ask Ian if it would be possible to Host some of the more handy utilities ... have to watch out for the bandwidth though.
