Hi,
Just for the fun of it, try this from your start / run gpedit.msc
Click on User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Desktop, Active
Desktop
Are there any items there that say anything other than Not Configured?
I'm thinking there might be a problem in that if Active Desktop isn't
enabled, or you've fooled around and set something like Classic desktop,
the Quick Launch toolbar won't be displayed as you're really changing
things back to the look and function that NT had, and it didn't have a
Quick Launch capability.
If you're really feeling adventurous, you can also try the global
setting for a test. While you're in the gpedit.msc click in the upper
left corner of that window on the word Action, then open Properties. Try
either of the two check boxes and see if things get back to normal.
Disabling globally isn't a final answer to what's happened, it'll just
get you closer to where the problem really is.
