Sorry lads, first time I been here for over 24 hours, went to a party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Meridian Magazine last night, free food, free beer, disco, band, wall to wall female
So I got a little plastered last night, overslept, was late for hospital appointment at Guys so they made me wait two hours but good news is I am healthy, apparently
Anyway, all that twaddle is of little consequence to this thread, isn't it?
What blew was a 20mm ceramic slo-blo fuse. As mentioned before, by Mucks I think, ceramic fuses are used where there is a chance they may shatter, for safety reasons, but a 2A 20mm glass fuse is perfectly acceptable in most cases. Glass fuses also have the advantage that you can actually see if they've blown.
Slo-blo fuses, as mentioned, can stand a short surge of current without blowing and a sub-woofer would probably draw such a surge at switch on. Fuses, particularly slo-blo ones, do get tired and wil often blow every few years or so for no reason. So, PSD99, don't worry about it unless it keeps happening.
Slo blo fues are marked 'T' which stands for 'Time' and fast blow fuses are marked 'F' for 'Fast'.
NEVER use a higher rated fuse than the one specified.
And I was quite pleased to see, looking through this thread, that nobody recommended wrapping a piece of silver foil round the fuse and wacking it back in
That be dangerous, that be.
And PSD99, which Mary is that then, your Aunt Mary or The Queen Mary?
