There have been some requests in the last few days for less common
program types/categories/cub-categories.

so . . .

I decided to try something - please take a look at this page:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php

The page is *very* preliminary . . .

Do you think a set of pages like this would be useful? I'm thinking one
page for each PL category (page) plus a category/sub-category index page.

Comments and suggestions please.

Susan,
Personally I'd stick the catagory as the last cell in the table, rather
than the first........ but other than that, it looks fine :o)

I like it. I would keep the categories where you have them.

Now that's my kind of Web page. Everything's easy to find.

If software is harder to find than my socks, I won't stay around long. :)

Looking great!!!

But IMHO, keep sub-cat on left as you have it, not over to right as
Steven Burn suggests

Go For it!!
Great Idea and leave it clean and simple.
I can't think of any other columns that I personally would like to see..

Hi Steven,

The sub-category is first because when the page loads it sorts on the
first column . . .

I see some favorable comments, thank you all. Thus encouraged :) I added
a few more pages. The list so far is:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_DESKTOP.php
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_FILEUTILITIES.php
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_GRAPHICS.php
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_INTERNET.php

all still very rough . . .

The sub-categories are organized in the order they are on the PL pages -
more or less - the intent is to match those categories with additional
categories as needed.

the pages could include info that sometimes hard to find . . .

What the last freeware version of a program is . . .

they *could* have some of the *bad* programs -> spyware

Did the "Pricelessware" a.c.f. CD project die on the table?

Nope, it's just been delayed.

David (SINNER) has been in the hospital. I got an email from him today.
He said he would send me the CD with the programs soon. (I replied that
he should send it when he has *recovered*.)

Sounds like an entirely reasonable placement of priorities :-)

I like the sorting capability, very useful. Even though time consuming and
sometimes frustrating as hell, this is still kind of fun stuff to do huh?
:)
Good work!

use the links at the top to switch pages. . .

no category page yet . . .

Lars marvelous script comes in handy again. :)
Even though time consuming

So far it's only been a few hours work. If people like the idea
improvements can follow (URLs etc.) - if not I'll take the pages down.

:)

I'm sorting through ACF posts about programs (that I saved over the last
few months) - this was a break - and it's fun stuff, yes. :)

I'm hoping that people *do* like the idea and post *their* lists of
programs to add to the pages (especially lists by sub-category),
suggestions for sub-category revisions (expert advice is sorely needed),
programs that should be removed (some $ware may have sneaked in) etc.

FWIW there are 2000 plus programs listed now - almost all gleaned from
posts in ACF . . . .
Good work!

thanks :)

I've added a column labeled PW - if the program was on recent
Pricelessware lists, the *last* year it was on the PL is shown.

The Business-Home page is semi-complete - almost all programs have URL's
now . . . some shareware was purged . . .

Additions? Corrections? Comments?

the other pages still have a ways to go . . .

Looks both good and is efficient IMHO. You should get bundles of TUs
for your efforts.

The whole project relies on one person?
OK, guess it wasn't worth pursuing after all.

Thank you for the kudos. :)

I'm hoping for contributions from the group when it's a bit further
along - ISTM that many of us save info about programs in areas that
interest us - and that it's less work to *organize* the info through a
*group* effort than individually . . .

as you can see I'm interested in *lots* of things :) so I thought my
data could be a start . . . :)

FYI - I've added an index to the pages and URLs to the Desktop and File
Utilities pages:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_CategoryIndex.php

ISTM that *most* projects work that way. In this case we can wait for
SINNER's CD *or* someone else can download the programs again. I'd
rather wait than download . . . ;)

David's downloads included programs that didn't allow
distribution, though, didn't it?
If there was a final list of programs available to
distribute I apologize but I missed it.

No apology necessary - the final list of programs is not done. ;) When
the CD arrives I hope to get *most* of the info about redistribution
from the readme's (the rest from ACF participants or contact with the
authors).

After the program list is final I'll finalize the CD's Program Index and
make the PL2004 CD which will include: the PL2004 web pages and the
(distributable) PL2004 programs. Copies of that CD will go to you and
others who volunteered to help in the distribution process.
