...\ I downloaded learn and pctree and unzipped the files but now I can't find where to put them.

When I first got this message it was because I was using Norton's (Symantec's) WinDoc utility and these two items came up as errors. In searching my existing XP system, I found that I have the pctree32.dll in three different places:

\Windows
\Windows\System
\Windows\Help\SBSI\Training

I have learn32.dll in two places:

\Windows\System
\Windows\Help\SBSI\Training

I suspect it may not be necessary in all of these places; but, I also think it is harmless (albeit un-tidy) to have them in more than one spot. If you are using WinDoc, you can train it to ignore these problems by selecting the item and selecting Ignore on the Problem menu.

OK that will help windoc and I did find the files when I searched again, thanks. Any ideas what might be causing MS Word suddenly not want to cooperate. It worked yesterday and it was closed. Later when I tried to open it I get that message about being unable to access the designated menu.

When it comes to Microsoft products, I find that asking why does not serve me. Unfortunately, it just is. ;^)

That is an unusual error message.

You might check to make sure you have all of the updates for your version of MS Office (if you are not running the stand alone version of Word). Although you can configure your pc to check for updates of Windows, you have to manually check for updates for office. If there are no new updates that remedy your problem, you might consider using the Repair option when selecting the program for removal through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

I wouldn't let the Upgrade to 2007 thing bother you at this point; they probably have just stopped supporting it. I suspect the cash cow hasn't been milked as easily with Vista as with previous versions of Windows; but the upgrade bell tolls for all of us at some point.
