OK ... you asked for it!

There exist(ed) a proggie for DOS called
RM.EXE (V1.4) written by Mark Adler.
Works in Windows, too, unless you are trying
to delete something in use.

This program is d-y-n-a-m-i-t-e in the hands
of a layman. CAUTION ... WARNING ...
there are no "Are You Sure ...?" messages.
It does what it says. DELTREE.EXE is
pablum in comparison.

DELTREE is just as powerful as you ask it to be. Using the proper command
line switches, it deletes anything that's not in use.

Problem with Norton Protected Recycle Bin is, it's a registry setting. It
may not even show up in a DOS window. If it will, and you're in DOS, DELTREE
will zap it.

OK! OK! -- Iget the picture surely one rply (not 6) would have been
enough!

Only joking - I am going to try and get it (google working on this
prob now) - so I will let you know if it worked or if I have any files
left at all.

Very sorry to shout but my frustration got the better of me.
I have a directory called Nprotect which carries deleted files. It
occupies 1.5 gig of my disk. I have tried deletion; reduction of
recycle size; eleiminagte recycle; swearing; cursing and witchcraft!

I cannot get rid of the contents.

Any suggestions without being sarcastic or rude.

Freeware at the bottom of the page. Will move or copy anything at
boot. Just move it then delete it. Works every time.

You probably just used "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs" to remove this
Norton program.
BEWARE!! That will NOT completely remove the Symantec Norton software off
your PC!!

IMHO, the Norton software is very similar to a virus. Once it is on your
system, it is next to impossible to remove it using conventional means.

It would appear that a lot of folks complained so Symantec released a
program called "SymClean" that will completely remove the Symantec garbage
off your computer. (Well at least Symantec claims it will remove all the
Symantec Norton software from your computer!). You can find SymClean on
their website.

I had to use SymClean to get rid of Norton SystemWorks. I am glad I did.
My computer is running a LOT faster now without the Symantec garbage on my
computer. Now I use AVG for an Anti-Virus and a collection of other
programs listed on Pricelessware.org.

I just wish I never wasted my $$$ on Norton SystemWorks....

Once you have uninstalled the Norton AV or systemworks, you
can partly clean the system with symclean. Then you can d/l
and run RNAV.exe from Symantec to cleanup a bit more. Then
you manually run a search for every instance of norton and
symantec in the registry to delete those keys. Do a manual
search for directories of file for every one with symantec
or norton as part of the name and delete them. Then go to
the symantec site and d/l a registry file named something
like "nsw2004registryremoval.reg". Merge it into your
registry. This will delete all of the other keys placed in
the registry during installation when you reboo the machine.
There is no guarantee that all of this hocus-pocu will
completely remove it as I learned the registration and
activation codes still reside in there somewhere. IMHO,
there a other packages that can get the job done more simply
with less intrusion into the machine and much less hassel.

That's a shame to have to jump through a dozen hoops just to clean up after
a program. Symantec should hang their heads.

OK - found it and yeah it sure looks frightening. Used worse thing
before though so I will report on how well it did.
Talking about RM.EXE of course which can be found on the symtel dos
site. Link to follow if this thing works

Nice one - I'll try that and let you all know tomorrow (the wifes just
informed me I am taking her out to Lunch and a show)!

MoveOnBoot

MoveOnBoot - move or delete files on next reboot
MoveOnBoot allows you to copiy, moves or delete files on the next
system boot. This comes in very handy, if you need to replace or
delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into
memory or cannot be changed until next system boot. You could manually
enter a line to the wininit files, but using MoveOnBoot is much
simpler, since the program can be integrated into shell - it creates
the "Copy/Move/Delete on boot" context menu item.

BusyDelete

http://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~bfriesen/software/files/bdel32.zip
BusyDelete will delete files even if they are busy. The file(s) you
specify will be marked for deletion. Then the next time you reboot
your system the Operating System will delete the file(s). For example
BDEL ATL.DLL will delete the file during the next reboot.

It's free, it's tiny, it's open source, it's easy to use, and it can
delete files for you when all else fails. So what is it?

I would rather see them just go out of business.

OK folks

All suggestions tried.

Bdelete - won't read NTFS
Dell later - won't read NTFS
RM won't read NTFS cos it needs DOS to run it. DOS won't recpognise
NTFS - at least the one I've got won't so if anyone has a boot disk
they are willing to post that will start DOS and read NTFS then many
grsatitudes.
I ewill try RM with NTFS read but haven't yet.
The only other trial I made was a commercial/shareware which did clean
the files but will not touch the directories..

Awaiting comments!
