yup!

Very sorry to shout but my frustration got the better of me.
I have a directory called Nprotect which carries deleted files. It
occupies 1.5 gig of my disk. I have tried deletion; reduction of
recycle size; eleiminagte recycle; swearing; cursing and witchcraft!

I cannot get rid of the contents.

Any suggestions without being sarcastic or rude.

I have had this problem too. Solved it by booting a Linux CD and
deleting from there.

I thought the OP asked nicely for no sarcasm or rudeness. Oh well, some
people's children!

Those are your Norton protected files. Right-click on your Recycle Bin icon
and you will see the option of deleting your Norton protected files.

HTH,
Ian.

DELTREE. It comes with DOS and Windows, at least through 98SE.

Hi Bob

I not only turned off Norton I unloaded and uninstalled - guess what!
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

How? Wouldn't have a clue how to do that. Education gratefully
received in simple terms.

TIA

Yeah thats what I thought. But right click does not seem to work and
as I said in another post I have uninstalled Norton.

Thanks for replying though.

Nice one - I'll try that and let you all know tomorrow (the wifes just
informed me I am taking her out to Lunch and a show)!

cheers

Your Norton uninstall did not work completely. If you still have the CD
try re-installing Norton(Systemworks?) then if you want re-uninstalling
it. Or go to symantec's website and search for > Symcln.exe
It is their removal tool, it is supposed to remove all traces of
Systemworks from your computer.
They also have removal tools for Norton Anti-virus and Internet
Security. Alot of problem people have with Norton products is from
debree left on there computers from prior Norton products not
un-installing right.

Norton products are not freeware, however the removal tools are free.

Thanks - tried it at 23:10 17/01/04 ----- didin't work _said files
were inaccessable.
Your help was appreciated though.

Anyone else got any ideas??

You probably just used "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs" to remove this
Norton program.
BEWARE!! That will NOT completely remove the Symantec Norton software off
your PC!!

IMHO, the Norton software is very similar to a virus. Once it is on your
system, it is next to impossible to remove it using conventional means.

It would appear that a lot of folks complained so Symantec released a
program called "SymClean" that will completely remove the Symantec garbage
off your computer. (Well at least Symantec claims it will remove all the
Symantec Norton software from your computer!). You can find SymClean on
their website.

I had to use SymClean to get rid of Norton SystemWorks. I am glad I did.
My computer is running a LOT faster now without the Symantec garbage on my
computer. Now I use AVG for an Anti-Virus and a collection of other
programs listed on Pricelessware.org.

I just wish I never wasted my $$$ on Norton SystemWorks....

That word "Linux" just drives you up a wall doesn't it Bob? The
suggestion made by Don was to use a linux CD to delete files "no
matter what" on the windows side. Perfectly valid!. Where's the
rudeness and sarcasm?. If Don had suggested booting from a DOS boot
disk and deleting the files from DOS, would you have seen any
sarcasm or rudeness there? This latter suggestion, is just as valid
depending on what flavor of Windows the OP is using.

My experience has been similar, but note this: even after using
SymClean, I still found many megabites of Norton garbage on my
computer using HD Valet and RegSeeker. You may have to use these
freeware programmes to clean up the mess completely.

OK ... you asked for it!

There exist(ed) a proggie for DOS called
RM.EXE (V1.4) written by Mark Adler.
Works in Windows, too, unless you are trying
to delete something in use.

This program is d-y-n-a-m-i-t-e in the hands
of a layman. CAUTION ... WARNING ...
there are no "Are You Sure ...?" messages.
It does what it says. DELTREE.EXE is
pablum in comparison.
