Can anyone tell me what printers they can get working in Vista?
I need a cheap printer for work, I only need black and white printing.
If I have to buy another printer just to run on this machine I want it cheap
LOL

Thanks for any help.

people will never forget how you made them feel.

Epson USB printers
Printing right now on my Epson Stylus Photo 1270...automatically set up by
Vista.

Wish my Epson R800 was that easy. Still haven't been able to find a way to
get drivers for it. Was hoping that the 32bit or 64bit drivers would work
under Vista 32 but no luck, My Epson Scanner 3170 though work like a charm.

The Canon iP4200 works in Vista Beta 2.
In my country this is a well-known and wide-spread printer model which
is not at all expensive (street price 86 EUR in Germany).

My iP3000 works as well.

My Canon MP830 works beautifully. If you're going to get another one anyway
then check it out. It's an all in one colour printer, fax and scanner that
can convert scans into PDF files, etc. and can read memory cards directly.
Brilliant quality and all for just $250.

Good luck.

My HP Lj 3015 All-in-One is printing in Vista x64 using XP32 setup running in
Compatability Mode for XP sp2...also have my Epson Stylus Photo R300 working
using XP64 driver...

My HP printer was not listed in the add-printer HP list so I picked a model
number close to mine that was in the list and it worked.

Were these printers attached directly to the PC? or were they somewhere on a
network.

So far I've tried two different PC running both Vista 32 and Vista 64 and
cannot get either of them to print to a network printer.

The printer can be installed just fine, and the system 'sees' the printer
but cannot actually print anything to it.

Currently the printer in question happens to be an HP Business Inkjet 2230
which happens to be one of the HP printers shown in Vista.

every time I try to send a test page, an error pops up immediately saying
'Test Page Failed To Print'

It acts (as another poster mentioned) as though the network printer is set
to 'Read Only'.

So far at home I've tried both a Netgear PS101 print server and an external
HP JetDirect print server.

Both printer server and the printer work just find printing from my XP box.

I also had the same problem with another PC running Vista 32 at work on an
NT Domain. Again printing to a HP Inkjet 2200 attached to another HP
external JetDirect printer server.

Same symtoms. Can see the printer just fine, but I still get the same error
'Test Page Failed to Print'

After many days of trying different ways to get my LJ3015 printer working
under Vista x64 b 5384 , I now have it working! Here's what I did:

Used my original driver disk for XP 32-bit OS and installed under Vista
using Compability mode for XP sp2. At the point during the install when it
asked whether the USB printer is locally installed or attached to network, I
moved my USB cable from the XP workstation it was connected to, over to the
Vista box, and...voila!....it found the printer and successfully loaded the
drivers. I then shared it and pointed it back at the CD for x86 XP driver
install.
After this, I simply connected to this shared printer from XP, and I now
have printing on Vista64, as well as XP.

It is connected to the same router on my wireless network as my PC is.

Jw, how is your printer connected to the router. Does the printer have an
internal network connection or are you using some sore of print server
module to go from the printer to the network.

Or is your printer wireless???

My printer has both an internal network connection and is wireless capable
also, I use the wired connection direct to my router and when I select "Add
Printer" I say it is on a network and Vista finds it but not the model
number and then asks where to find the driver and I select "Add from a list"
and select an HP driver with a model number close to mine. My printer is an
HP Deskjet 6840.

Thanks for the information.

While at work, I was unable to print to the Deskjet 2200 that was using an
external HP JetDirect adapter, but I WAS ablt to print to three other HP
printers (Laserjet 4000n, 4050n and a Deskject 2500C with a builtin
JetDirect.

Right now the common items seem to be... (uncluding your printer)

External JetDirect (or NetGear at home) Can't print, get a 'Test page
Failed To Print' error
Internal network adapter (JetDirect) Works fine...

Hmmm..

try the ricoh aficio ap400n pcl 6

it works fine here. we have got it in a network (local) and works fine
