Printer Ink Advice

If you have a Costco store nearby and don't mind cutting the 8.5x11 paper
into three 4x6's with a little waste left over your paper cost is about five
cents per print. If you use non-OEM inks you are talking about pennies for
the ink as well. Using a paper cutter with an adjustable guide (I have an
old guillotine type with guide) you can cut a whole box of paper in about a
half hour = 375 4x6's. If you print many 5x7's Measekite cuts two 4x6's and
a 5x7 from one sheet with less waste and more bang for the buck (or pennies
in this case.) Just be sure you buy a paper cutter with a table large
enough and with an adjustable guide or you will have to be attentive to
lining up each cut instead of blindly setting the paper against the guide
for each cut.

I will be printing letters, travel information from the net, and photos,
of course. It sounds like you're happy with your compatibles... on all
your printers.

Susan

Photo? I would bring to store like Wal-Mart, SAM's Club or similar which
costs around 17-20 cents per 4x6" print. IOW, you have owned a super
expensive photo printer and have some employee doing the printing for you,
then why not use it which it lot cheaper and last much longer than Inkjet.

I agree that some photo looks better with inkjet than photolab, but the
whole world lives with the look of photolab so I guess we too can live with
it.

I'm more comforable using inks that others have recommended, but Joel's
experience makes me feel that many more of the third party inks are better
than some would suggest. Even the inks that others have reported using
successfully are so much cheaper than OEM that I am personally reluctant to
stray from them to save just a few more dollars.

Much thanks to Burt (and Frank). I think I've gathered enough credible
information for study. I'll go to some of these sources and see who
offers what at what price.

And if their websites don't look professional and they don't tell me
the surnames of all the people who handled the ink . . . kidding!!!

Susan

I have been using inkjet for many years, and before some local stores
offering digital printing I used to fill my ink and print lot of photo with
Epson Photo printer. Then started using online print (Wal-Mart used to
charge 26 cents per 4x6) and now they offer 1 hr printing at local Wal-Mart
store for 17 cents per 4x6. And I have Wal-Mart do all my photo printing (I
sometime print up to 200+ photos each).

About third party ink, I shop for the lowest price and deal I can find. I
don't remember the link, but few months ago I bought (10) Color and (10)
black ink cartridges for my Epson Photo 900, and they cost around $40-$43 +
FREE S/H for all 20 cartridges. Right now, I only use inkjet t print CD/DVD
label (inkjet printatble DVD) and it would take at least 2+ years to use up
10 cartridges (each color).

And even if the printer dies, it's still much cheaper than spending $$$$
on the original ink.

Oh geeze...I'm fear I'm arguing with a pre-teen idiot! You couldn't be
more than 9-10 yrs old according to the phraseology you're using. Or
maybe it’s just the lack of a proper education coupled with your
obvious low intelligence that’s coming through in your postings.
One thing is really obvious…you need help.

While you are there, Costco sells the Fiskars Rotary paper cutter that
does a great job for $29.00. They also have the lowest price (still
very high) on Canon OEM carts for $9.00. If you are not going to use
more than a few sets a year it is not really worth going the after
market route.

MIS is the label on the inks I have been using. There is also one labeled
MSI. Mousekite is just continuing with his self proscribed definition of
what a brand is. Please, Mousie - no need to repsond. I already know your
reasoning. No need to continue the rant - MIS is the stuff I use - works
great - I don't give a flying F about your brands, labels, whores, etc.
Thanks. Thought I'd typed wrong. :)

I have a canon i9900 which is great for photos, and I do use canon
cartridges, however I also have a lexmark 705 that I use for
everything else, and I buy Nukote refills they work great, both black
and 3 color kits. Recently I fould out that they also carry refills
for the i9900 ( RF186, 186C, 186M etc. I have not bought any yet for
the i9900 but I am trying to find where to buy them. I would
recommend Nukote refills or the name brand, there may be others out
there that are good but I will stick with Nukote because it works
great for me. If you are going to be printing a lot of photos, I
would definately recommend a high end canon, my daughter has a ip8500
and she is very happy with it, the only reason I bought the i9900 was
because I wanted to be able to print 13 by 19 prints. Hope this
helps

I hear that the i9900 is the best consumer wide format print available
producing the most vibrant and sharpest results. I print using an
IP4000 with Costco/Kirkland glossy paper. I think it is made by
Ilford. It is very comparable to Canon Photo Paper Pro at 1/7 the
price. I use the Pro profile. Try it and let us know how it performs
in the i9900. Unfortunately the only size Costco sells it in is
8.5x11. I would like to see a 13x19 size. From that you can cut 11x14
and a 5x8

Check out www.neilslade.com/papers/inkjetstuff and
www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/ for information on third party Canon inks,
cartridges, and general good information about maintaining Canon printers.

He is not God but the site does have value. Beware of aftermarket
inks. Slade recommended ingrabber carts. They shipped a bad batch of
yellow and clogged a bunch of machines. You need to be careful about
the ink you buy and where you get it. Most of the aftermarket hawkers
do not tell you in writing on their website what they are selling you.
They primarily sell UNBRANDED inks and put a store Label on them.

Not all will mess up your printer but you need to find a better grade
one and then hope that the seller you purchased it from sells the same
thing when you need to reorder.

Geeseshite knows very well that the Nifty-stuff forum covered that issue in
detail and had later postings that subsequent carts worked fine. One person
reported the problem on that forum and clogged two printers. Is the
definition of a "bunch" two?????? That forum is very clear on the positive
and negative issues surrounding aftermarket inks.

No one ever said that Slade was God. Glad you acknowledge that the site, in
your infinite wisdom, has value. More valuable information, in fact, than
you have provided in all the months I have seen your posts on this NG. All
of you out there who might be interested in using aftemarket inks please
understand the Measekite has never used any of these products and does not
speak from his own experience. Many people who post on this NG use
aftermarket inks successfully.

For every one that participated in the forum and reported it there must
be many many more that did not.

We in this NG are blessed, not only with the world's non-using greatest
expert on third party inks, but with a poor mindless soul who, nonetheless,
can read the minds of those who have not posted their third party ink
disasters to this NG or Nifty forum. Here we are in the presence of the
court seer, and we though all along that he was merely the village idiot.
Shame on us.

You're a brain dead idiot. You have no idea what's going on in this ng
regarding your moronic postings do you. You just don't get it do you.
Take a hint and get lost.
