PLEASE CHECK TOOLS AND SETTINGS

For some reason I have been unable to change any settings in WD. I have the
latest update. I can open Tools, but Settings and Tools will not open. I have
posted before and gotten help, but to no avail. Would some of you please
check and see if you might be having the same problem? I don't think it is
just me and my friend. Thanks all....
 
Settings and Tools window opens for me OK .. have never had a problem with
this.
Have you tried updating the installation thru Control Panel>Windows
Defender>Change?
What OS version are you using?

And you can see all the process's I have tried. I am just hoping if someone
else is having the same problem, they will let us know, or if they had the
problem and repaired it, HOW?

Well, I downloaded it, Ran parts of the Dial-A-Fix.exe. I was a bit hesitant
about checking all the items, so didn't. Ran the Windows Installer/windows
Updates and Program Cores. Still can't open Settings. Are there any specific
items in Dial a Fix I should have checked?

To be honest, I am about ready to give up!!! If I can't get it fixed tonight
I think I will uninstall. Which I don't want to. So, I am still looking for
suggestions. Perhaps I didn't "fix" the right thing.
 
When you say you can "open" Tools do you see the 6 links for "Options", etc?
There is no "Tools and Settings" other than the title at the top of the
page. If you click on the link "Options" you should see the next view - which
is the "options" setting page. Sorry if I'm mis-interpreting your post - I'm
confused on the path you're taking :)
 
I will try to explain this better, then. I have had WD for over a year and
had no problems with it except at the beginning of beta when the updates
wouldn't automatically update. I can open Tools from the icon at the top, and
Settings and Tools are there, BUT Settings nor Tools will open from there. My
friend is having the same problem. She was actually the one that brought it
to my attention. If you don't need to change any settings, you don't really
go into Settings so I have no idea how long my program has been this way.
Now, since I uninstalled, cleaned, etc. and re-installed I can't even get my
old settings back.

I am sorry if I wasn't making myself clearer, but I am getting frustrated!!!
 
Ok - please tell me that
1) you can see the 6 links on the Tools and Settings page
2) you can click on the "Options" link
that will help me understand a little more.

Yes, I can see the 6 options. 2 of Settings and 4 of Tools. But none of these
options will open anymore.
 
OK, you're starting to stump the pro's now. That's really odd that none of
the links are active. Hmm, tell me what version of WD you're running?

I think this is the very latest update, right?
Like I said I am not the only one with this problem, my friend brought it to
my attention. So, it isn't just something "off" on my PC.
 
I will spread this around internally on Friday and see if we can find some
answers (or more questions).
 
Everything works fine except for the options. It will scan, history oopens,
home, etc. just no options.
 
Actually the "links" at the top of the page (Home/Scan/History/Tools,etc) are
really just buttons. Try the real link at the bottom of the About dialog
("View more information about Windows Defender online"). Let me know if that
link opens up the web page. I'll be back tomorrow...
 
Good morning. WD updated to the 1929.4 automatically and all the links in the
program will open the web pages. So every thing works great, except the Tools
and Setting options. And since the re-install, I can't set the setting to
keep the icon in the taskbar or schedule an automatic scan time. Those are
the 2 options I need!
