Probably making more noise because it is metal on wood , instead of on
rubber feet on wood.

Hell I have two of those old P2 right behind me layed sideways on top of
each other. The only thing noisy about them is the *&^%CPU fans.
Hell the one CPU is held in with two rubberbands. Been that way for
over a year. I dug both of them out of a shops dumpster. They do
serve a purpose for me a firewall and a printer server.

Hi all,
Thanks again. Just want to say that I really had a belly-laugh or two
following the string of conversations around my original question! I think I
got the answer I need. It's been fun. Thanks for the info and your banter!

Did you even read my other posts???

Anyway as to the HD... Tell me genius, why do you think WD and Maxtor then
design the OEM packaging material so that ALL of the drives are standing on
their sides ALL of the time if that wasn't allowed...

As to the optical drive, I already gave you the argument of the tray
catches, now Wendy has already told you her drive works correctly, I have
already told you that I've seen thousands of drives working correctly on
it's side and lastsly I can also tell you that changing the orientation of
an optical drives does NOT introduce any exaggerated wear because it works
on a completely different principle, in there the weight of the disc plus
holding clamps is not being borne by the motor bearings as it is in a HD.

But of course you already knew all of that because I already told you all of
that.
