Pinnacle Dazzle Video Creator Platinum vs. Windows Movie Maker 2

Hi- Cyclone49- Another thought -- My Pinnacle captures the vcr footage in
..avi format and it plays well in Moviemaker. If yours captures in avi form it
should be compatible in your Moviemaker. That seems logical but whoever said
that computers are logical. It's true that Mpeg-2 and Mpeg-4 are not too
friendly in Moviemaker. Don't give up the ship.

Cyclone - hang in there and good luck with your efforts. It only gets
harder :-) Let us know if you decide to go with the TV tuner card and how
that works out for ya.

Hey Breadstick.

Back again. What version of Pinnacle do you have? Mine is called Dazzle
Video Creator Platinum by Pinnacle. The Pinnacle Studio 10 software that
came with it only allows me three capture formats: MPEG-1/2, MPEG-4, and
DivX. There is no AVI selection available on the Pinnacle Studio 10 capture
format screen. They do have a Dazzle Video Creator Platinum "Plus" upgrade,
so I am wondering if I need to see if it includes the ability to capture
using the AVI format. Is the AVI a better format than MPEG for transferring
analog video? I'm beginning to think I need to take this whole thing back to
Best Buy and look for something with more options than this Dazzle setup has.
I'm getting email responses back from Pinnacle Support that are giving me no
help whatsoever. The guy just keeps asking me more questions, versus giving
me any answers to my responses. Thanks.

Thanks Newtechie.

It's looking like I will probably be unloading this Dazzle setup and
returning it to the Best Buy store where I bought it. I hope I see the sales
guy who told me he was absolutely sure this Dazzle would work with Windows
Movie Maker 2 when I asked him "because he had 16 years experience in the
business".

Cyclone - I'd have to say yes. They're easier to import into Movie Maker.
I used Pinnacle for a couple of projects a few years back and it had nice
features but it was a system hog. When you go back to Best Buy, just
inquire about the TV tuner card.

You're welcome. Sometimes it's better to go with your own instincts instead
of with those salesmen. Some are intelligent and the rest are just
scripted. They'll say anything to get you to buy it especially when
commission is involved.

I finally received an email message from Pinnacle support today officially
stating that "Windows Movie Maker 2 will not recognize my Dazzle DVC 170
capturing device." If it did, they wouldn't guarantee good results. I don't
know whether the guy I was communicating with finally found the right
Pinnacle tech to tell him this, or, they just discovered this weakness in
their product. With all of the PC's out there that have Windows Movie Maker
2 installed on them, I think it would be wise for Pinnacle to attempt a fix
for this issue with their video capturing devices. Looks like I will be
returing my Dazzle DVC 170 to Best Buy. Then I will go somewhere else to
purchase a TV Video capture card. Merry Christmas all. And thanks again.

Posted this under Newtechie, but this is also for you Breadstick..... thanks.

I use Dazzle to capture video for editing from my DVD player and also from my VCR. For editing though sometimes I use Adobe Premiere Elements. I find that I have to upload with Pinnacle Dazzle. To use my other programs I have to use the feature "add media" to attach the files I've uploaded. I don't know if you tried that or not. My Adobe program will not recognize uploading video from my VCR so that's the route I have to take.

- I installed the Dazzle Platinum DV170 and am experiencing the same errors.
One problem is that Movie Maker 2 does not allow the user to change the
capture device settings with the modal dialogs that pop-up. When the error
dialog is closed, so is the settings panel. It doesn't appear to recognize
the Dazzle 170. I wonder if there is a way to reset the capture settings, so
I can properly configure MM2.

I e-chat with a support engineer from Pinnacle (Fernando) and was blown off
saying, "we don't support 3rd party apps...".

I will post if I have any success.
