Pictures Disappear on Slideshow

I'm not a PP expert so would appreciate some help...

I've got a powerpoint doc with slides set up so that pictures 'fly' in from
the right. If I select 'play' then my pictures appear. If I select
'slideshow' then they don't.

Any ideas? Whats the difference between playing and doing a slideshow?

The doc was originally PP 2000 (which all works fine) but now needs to be
run in 2003. Only in 2003 the slideshow fails to show the pictures

In addition to John's suggestion, make sure that the animations are not set
to start "on mouse click." When previewing the animations using the "play"
button on the animation task pane, the animations happen automatically. In
slide show view, they happen on click or automatically, depending on what
was specified.

So I guess the question is, do the animations play if you click the mouse in
slide show view?

Updated with SP1 etc but no difference. The animations do not play when the
mouse is clicked in slideshow view although they should do.

I apparently have to convert the image to a Microsoft Office Drawing Object
then re-add the custom animation before it'll work in 2003. Don't know why
though.

That seems an odd way around it. How large are your pictures? (I mean, how
large are they file-size-wise? Are they 10MB TIFs or something?

I would also try changing hardware acceleration.

How to set graphics hardware acceleration back
