It's disenchanting. Apparently, this kind of business practice is
somewhat acceptable in the U.K. I've had a couple of experiences with
advertising from the British that are blatantly, in your face, half
truths. Not to judge an entire population, but there is a pattern
developing.

And where, exactly, did that come from?
The 2 moans in this thread are XP activation and intrusive registering of
Serif software....2 US companies. American advertising is famous
worldwide for half truths, blatant whoppers ("Linux is more expensive
than Windows", to name a recent M$ sales porky) and misleading
statements.

Yes, this does occur in the UK too - many sales types are lying scum.

Serif is a British company isn't it? I may be wrong, let me see.
- It says "Protected by the copyright laws of the United States and
the United Kingdom and by international treaties" on their web page.
www.serif.com
- Their whois says their web site is registered in NH (US).
- Their history page says "1991 Serif PagePlus 1.0 launched as the
first sub-£100" (100 Pound) "DTP package for Windows 3.0 and a head-on
challenge to high-end products."
http://www.serif.com/company/ourhistory.asp
- Their history page says "1997 Serif's UK operations moved to larger
premises in June to provide much needed new office and warehouse
space." http://www.serif.com/company/ourhistory.asp

Exactly. The comparison is with XP where John says, "Kinda like XP's
"product activation"."

I've actually purchased version 7 and I still have to look at the
registration nag every time the program launches. Hit Enter 3 times
and you're up and running (great for removing red-eye from
photographs). I'll even give you my number: 09748. I won't register
again.

Kinda like XP's "product activation"?

Now that you mention it.

I do like the Photoplus program. It's matches Corel Paint nearly step
for step, and at $10 US or so if you follow their sales it's a great
bargain. I'm not so happy about being at the receiving end of their
aggressive sales approach.

I cannot find PhotoPlus 6 on the Serif website. It looks like I am
too late. Serif must have removed it. Pity....

Rob
Found it http://www.serif.com/store/ranges/toolkit_ph6.asp

but it's more than the $10 US someone stated. $34.99 ;)
