Just a few days ago I tried to explain to a woman in Staples how to
save an additional $50 instantly on a printer she was about to
purchase. She said she couldn't do it because she didn't have the
time! It would have taken her about an hour, or less, to go home,
download the coupon, print the coupon, and return to the store and
apply it to her purchase.

I can't remember when not spending an additional, unnecessary $50 on
something wasn't important to me. I guess some people just have too
much money to be bothered. Must be nice. Hmmm..........where's that
lottery ticket.

It's a wonder how lazy people even accomplish wiping their ass :)

I thought you were going to tell us they had no problem paying $40 for this
"upgrade" but then didn't want to pay you $40 for fixing it! I had a
neighbor who spent $300+ on networking hardware but didn't want to pay me
$25 to set it up. He spent $450 on 3 copies of XP convinced that was his
problem only to finally pay me the $25 to look at it and I found he had
been sold crossover cables instead of regular ones! :-)

OMG LOL OK, that is not really funny (but it is).

Uuuhhhh ... Since at least NT 4.0 days.

Gee, I always used Fat32 on my Windows partition since I thought that
Linux couldn't read NTFS partitions.

Think again, then.

It might not be built into the kernel on the distro you use, but it
IS a kernel module now.

Linux also used to not have a journaling file system available. It
also used to work just peachy-keen on 386SX class machines straight off of
distro CDs. Neither one has been true for a while now .. {grins}

Isn't that fabulous. Now if only it would support my USB KB and mouse,
I'll be all set.

you know your stupid comments are really nessasary, makes you a real big
man eh? so your saying you have no idea what im talking
about.....interesting

Where did you get the "writing kernals" BS? Was -that- STUPID comment
nessasary? Do you realy think Linux users have to WRITE their own software
and the OS itself? If so (and you wrote this didn't you?) you have NO idea
what you're talking about and hence should stay quiet as far as making
coments about Linux since you've obviously never used it!

yeah play solitaire man okay you came in when all the work is done and tout yourself as a "Linux" user whatever, mad
redhatter?/....let me say this there is allot more to using computer than playing games and using office suites. so LINUX is done ?
no more need to improve it? no more code needed? RIGHT
Linux has come a LONG way, no thanks to you obviously.

(cough) There's at least one distro that does, I'm sure. I'm sure
because I ran into eight Linux boxes that all used USB mice and keyboards.

I'd say more, but I'm not a daily Linux users.

People are stupid, and that's a damn shame, but it's a fact of life.

Example:

A pal asked me for help because she couldn't update her antivirus
software successfully. She paid 40 bucks for the update online (could
figure that part out, all right), but for some reason couldn't download
and apply the updated software.

I'm going ~insane~, here!

Comments?

I think this may take the cake...

A friend, worried about all the viruses going around lately, asked me to
scan her hard drive with her McAfee Virus Scanner that she originally
purchased online last May 2002. I assumed she had renewed the subscription
and had it running in the background all the time, but just didn't know how
to do an on demand scan.

Well, she had no McAfee icon on her desktop, system tray, or Start/Program
menu.

I logged on to the McAfee site, and tried to log in to her account. She
didn't know you could do that, so needless to say, she didn't know her
password. We put in her old email addy (attbi.com - she was with attbi
when she purchased the McAfee product) and asked for a her password to be
sent to her.

But wait, she said, attbi.com doesn't exist anymore. I'm with comcast.
Yes, but comcast is forwarding your attbi email to your comcast account,
like they explained in the letter they sent to you. Remember that letter?
Oh, I just ignored it.

We immediately got her password and logged into her McAfee account.

It turns out she did indeed purchase McAfee Virus Scanner, but never
downloaded it. Apparently, she also ignored the letter McAfee sent to her
after she made the purchase, instructing her to now download the product.
