PCI Video Trouble

I think most boards are made with this setting to chose which you want to be
primary if you have 2 video cards in the box at once. If it doesn't find an
AGP, it looks for a PCI iregardless of where you have that set. Then again
some weird boards might choke, seems odd as how could you set it up if you
didn't have an AGP card?

Yes, you're right. Any semi-modern board simply changes the order in
which it "looks" for the primary display, with only (one or the other,
AGP or PCI) installed that setting shouldn't matter.

That would be my guess, but I have seen it run on another machine, after
experiencing these problems on my PC in the past... I didn't try back
than all that i tried now, and I suppose the card could have died
since... but the odds are slim.

It's possible, mishandling a card, to scramble the card's bios. In
such cases you'd need to install both the AGP & PCI, boot with the AGP
as primary and try flashing the card's bios to it (just be SURE it's
flashing the correct card, bios). It's also possible that the card's
flasher won't recognize the card anymore, in which case a generic
flasher like "uniflash" might be needed.

Another possibility is that the card is simply incompatible with your
specific motherboard... it happens, for no obvious reason every now
and then I'll come across card "x" not being able to work in board "y"
even though a VERY similar card will work, and same card will work in
a very similar board.

After I had this trouble about half a year ago, I took the card back
where I bought it.. they tried it for me, and it worked. Since then, I
didn't need the card, and put it aside... now I was trying to use it
again, and have the same problems as before... :(

I wanted to use this card till I get my new PC.. right now I am using a
Savage4 card not supported by many games like MOH. This GeForce 2 card
should let me run those games...
At this point I would almost certainly give it up as an
incompatibility problem. However, if you are certain it will work on
another system, then put an ad in your local paper. When you get any
calls, then you can state that unfortunately the card won't work with
your mobo (so they can't see the card working), but any buyers are
welcome to bring it back if it won't work on their systems either.

That way you get some money for the card, and you can put that towards
buying a 32 or 64Mb Nvidia AGP card that will work. Once that's
sorted, you can sell the 16Mb AGP as well.

With a bit of careful selling you might well break even.

Hmm... I did try putting in the AGP and the PCI, but didn't let it boot
all the way (with the AGP in, I tried to see if I can get the PCI to
work... ) I will try to boot on the AGP with the PCI in, and see if the
card even gets recognised there. Good idea... thanks. :)

I read somewhere that some boards will not disable AGP by default, so
that is why I thought having the AGP in while trying the PCI migth get
the cmos to kick in and wake the PCI wyhen it see there is no monitor
plugged into it...

I'll post the results of botting through AGP with PCI in, and trying to
flash the card or something similar. :)
