Paintshop Pro is both a picture processing program and a paint program.
To replace it you need two freeware programs, Photofiltre and Pixia.

(But if you use only the picture processing features in PsP you can, of
course, replace it with only Photofiltre.)

Pixia is by far the best lightweight paint program.
It has an interface which needs a little learning, but that is easy to
accomplish with the help of the tutorials which are available on the web.

Pixia does look after the vector drawing very well indeed. I have it
installed but it is used rarely as I am not much of an artist. Heck,
I'm no artist at all.

It is easy....

Well, yes and no. To those used to Wintel apps, its interface takes a
little getting used to. But there's no disputing that it is by far the most
powerful and capable freeware application of its type. Once you're used to
it, I agree, it's not hard to use.

It gets a little easier once you memorize a few of the mnemonics
and add a few of your own to the menus.

True, but it is like any application... untill you get know how to use it
all can be confusing.

Personally most computer applications (no matter difficult) I find easy but
that is just me I am around computers all day and every day...

All those windows scattered all over the screen make me want to get a fly
swatter. :)
