netcop category

A) Netscape doesn't control Usenet so anything they put there is actually on
topic only by accident.

B) "Usenet etiquette" doesn't exist. Whether someone complies with what YOU
happen to think is right, or not, is purely up to the person. Thus, Usenet
is an anarchy.

C) Telling someone to comply to what you may think is right - eg, in this
case posting in all CAPS being considered not right - is being a NET COP.
Replying to them saying that it is considered bad taste and asking them if
they wouldn't mind NOT using all caps is an altogether different and polite
thing. TELLING them to conform is being a NETCOP.

Whether someone WANTS to post all caps or not is purely beside the point.
The truth is that they could post disgusting binaries here if they wished.
What gets posted on a private server is up to the owner of the server, in
this case MS. If they don't specifically tell you "Don't post all caps or
lose your access" and enforce it, then there is no reason for others to act
as if THEY owned the server, either.

What people arguing about this opposite to me forget is that the end of the
name in this newsgroup is "newusers" and they really need to keep that in
mind, be helpful and stop jumping on people. Are they so arrogant in their
knowledge, nowadays, that they forget their own first days or are they so
young they cant remember them?

This is a TECHNICAL news group if it hadn't escaped your notice. A technical
newsgroup is there to assist people with TECHNICAL problems. Any technical
forum or publication has a format to ensure that a) the questions are posed
succinctly, and b) the answers are usually in a certain format to make the
thread easily read.

perhaps you should inhabit alt.the.world.sucks.anarchy

What is the big deal about so called "top posting"? When you hit the reply
to group button, the cursor is automatically placed at the TOP of the
message. If top posting is considered SO EVIL, why not make the cursor
appear at the end of a message?

I usually bottom post but will top post too. Have seen situations where
both are useful and appropriate. Tradition sides with bottom posting and
its proponents will stress that it maintains the flow of conversation.

Top posting is placing your response a the top of the reply instead of at
the bottom (bottom posting).
