You shouldn't have to move all the folders. Make sure windows mail is not
running the delete the file WindowsMail.MSMessageStore for teh Windows Mail
folder and restart Windows mailo if this does not work delete this file and
also the same file name in the Windows Mail\Backup\New folder. Then restart
windows mail you may lose the messages that have not been sent so you may
want to move them out of the outbox before you do this.

Thanks, Steve. I'm all set. As you suggested I created a new directory
under Documents: "WindowsMailFiles" and moved all my files to this new
directory. As of the last post I had asked how to import my Inbox, Sent,
Deleted back into Windows Mail. While awaiting a reply I looked at those
directories and was pleased to see that instead of .dbx databases as with
Outlook Express, they are separate .eml files (I'm new to Windows Mail). So
I simply copied the files back to their proper directories and all's well.

Forgot to mention: while the problem is evidently resolved I still have no
idea how that one offending email became "not associated with an account" nor
what causes the "unknown error". It would be nice to know.

I'll say again, the reason I suggest moving everything out of there is that
people are reporting problems with WinMail persistently trying to recover
messages from the store. If you move everything out of there, then that
won't happen and then they can import the messages from where they moved the
directory.

Its not necessary to move all of that, but by not doing so, one can create
further problems.
